American Conservative Daily - The Rules, Info & Terms of Use:

American Conservative Daily is owned and operated by J.J. Jackson, President of Land of the Free Studios, Inc. and is the daily blog of Conservative News & Opinion The Land of the Free. This site, while accessible to the public, is a privately owned and operated. It is not a “place of public accommodation” and you do not have a “right” to make comments or post articles and commentary on this site.

Opinions expressed here come from a conservative/libertarian view point where individual rights and liberties along with limited government is promoted.

This is a fully moderated site. It is not a “free for all”. That means that when people who are “moderators” act in their appointed role, others are expected to abide by their directions. This will come as a huge shock to those of you who come from websites where “moderator” is basically a symbolic title given to senior members and who have no ability to actually moderate. For the sake of those of you who have never actually had to deal with a real “moderator” who actually does their job, to moderate means: “to preside over or act as chairman of”.

Moderators & their roles:

  1. Who are the moderators? This site is moderated by PinguMama (Sr. Moderator), RonniesRayGun (Moderator) and Red Tornado (Moderator). The Site Administrator (J.J. Jackson) may also act as moderator at his own discretion. LibertarianPrince is a backup moderator for times when other site mods are not available.
  2. What is the job of the moderators? Glad you asked! This site’s moderators have some very important functions.

    3. o First they are tasked with keeping posts and the discussions that follow tidy and on topic.

    o Second they are tasked with weeding out people who are trolling and being generally disruptive.

  3. In order to prevent continual loops of the same argument in a post and it degenerating into a “ya-huh!”/”nuh-uh” argument, moderators will at times “moderate” debates that occur in a comment thread.
  4. You, as a commenter, are expected to respect them, their opinions and their directives.
  5. If a moderator asks you to clarify comments it is highly suggested that you do so.
  6. If a moderator gives you a general directive it is highly suggested that you obey it.
  7. If a moderator makes a decision as to which side of a debate has won an argument, all posters are expected to abide by it and move on unless truly new information comes to light later on. This is to prevent comment threads from degrading into basically a “Yes it is”, “No it isn’t”, “Yes it is” argument without end.
  8. Moderators have absolute authority to regulate this site by the rules posted below and ban persons deemed to be in flagrant violation.
  9. Every week all actions taken by the moderators with respect to comments are reviewed by the site admin and they are graded by an internal system derived to determine their effectiveness. If at any time the moderators score less than 90% they are put on supervised probation. If a moderator scores less than 90% two weeks in a row they are placed on a leave of absence for four weeks. If a moderator scores less than 90% more than five times in any calendar year they are removed from duty. And in case you are wondering, only one moderator has ever scored less than 90% and that has happened only once. No moderator has been removed from duty.

So, please bear in mind the following rules:

  1. For the time being the “comments” section is open to the public. This is subject to change at any time based on the discretion of Mr. Jackson.
  2. Comments must be in English.  And by English I mean a form of proper modern English that can be understood.
  3. Think of this site as someone’s house. Act the way you would act if you were at someone else’s house because that is the way you are expected to act here. I know you liberals don’t care much for private property and that this may be difficult for you, but please at least try.
  4. The comments section is provided for “comments” on the posts that are made. The “comments” section is not for advertising your site or schlepping for a cause. Comments should also be short and concise. It is not labeled “dissertations” or “pages of endless rambling” for a reason.
  5. You are given a field in which to link to your website with. This is the only place you are to link to your own personal site.
  6. Comments made should be on topic of the post they are being made in. If a post is about taxes, for example, comments should be about taxes. If a post is about unconstitutional spending then the comments should be about unconstitutional spending.
  7. In order to aid the moderators, this site employs a series of complex filters through which all comments, pingbacks and trackbacks are run. These filters are designed to weed out both automated and human input spam. Certain things that will trip these filters are, but not limited to:

Note that some actions result in the software banning you outright while others only result in your specific comment being eaten. Other actions will only put you in the queue for moderation and a look at by human eyes. So please be aware that you might get banned by our software if you are naughty!

  1. Posting of personal information is strictly verboten! Posting you address, telephone number, etc. in comments will result in your post being deleted. You may use your real name as your screen name, link to your website and give an email address in the fields provided for those purposes but that is as far as “personal” information is allowed.
  2. Racism, sexism, and other such nonsense is not tolerated. I know that this is common sense but every now and again we get some liberal that comes around here spouting such tripe so it is important to make sure it is clear that such idiocy will not be tolerated.
  3. If you are a troll you will be banned. There are two types of trolls. Trolls that are deliberately trolling and trolls that don’t have the candlepower to know that they are trolling. Both are treated equally.
  4. If you post blatantly false information you will be banned. The truth is appreciated. Your opinion is appreciated. But lies for the sake of furthering your cause are not.
  5. Posting under multiple names/IP addresses to represent yourself as more than one person or get around a site ban is a big no no. Don’t do it. Your posts will only be deleted anyway.
  6. Comments made espousing just general hate towards Mr. Jackson, other authors who post articles here or those that make comments will be moved to the official “I hate you”/”You’re an idiot” thread. This is where all such nonsense finds its eventual resting place.

You agree that by posting comments you are willing to abide by these rules.

Mr. Jackson reserves the right to revise and/or extend these rules at any time.

Trolling Defined:

Trolling includes, but is not limited to, when you are not actually putting forth useful information or a valid and reasoned response to something posted, are being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative, avoiding direct questions while demanding others answer your questions, posting an inflammatory comment and then calling others “hateful” when they respond to you, or are just generally looking to stir things up because you disagree but have no real argument for why you disagree.However, responding to a troll in an aggressive or rude manner is not considered trolling.Example of Trolling:

Member A says: “Social Security is unconstitutional and beyond the powers of Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.”

Troll responds: “What are you? A NAZI?”

Another Example of Trolling:

Member A says: “Social Security is unconstitutional and beyond the powers of Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.”

Perspective Troll responds: “Yes it does, it says that congress is to provide for the ‘general Welfare’!”

(note: At this is not considered trolling at this point however the conversation continues.)

Member A says: “The federalists clearly stated through James Madison in Federalist 41 that the ‘general Welfare’ clause only pertained to those powers specifically enumerated when they addressed this same complaint. Since the constitution was ratified on that explanation and no amendment has been made it must still be the accepted definition of the term.”

Troll responds: “Obviously you are just a heartless bastard who wants to starve people.”

(note: Now, it becomes trolling because the facts are laid out and the responder has ignored them and senseless accusations are made.)

Another Example of Trolling:

Troll posts first comment of: “America sucks and I’m leaving!”

Member A says: “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

(note: This is not considered trolling by member A because their response is directed at an inflammatory comment by the troll.)

Trolls will be banned. Usually we wait to make sure that comments are not based on a misunderstanding before taking action. Misunderstandings are not considered trolling.

You accept for all legal purposes that you have the right to submit said material and that you have not plagiarized any work which you are contributing for publication. You also agree to indemnify Land of the Free Studios, Inc. from any submission you make which you do not have the rights to, have misattributed, have plagiarized, etc.

If you add us to your group’s mailing list, you agree that we are allowed to reprint any such material sent to us in those mailings.

Syndication:

American Conservative Daily provides RSS feeds for syndication of all material this site publishes. You are free to use these feeds to aggregate the items that appear here into your own site so long as you do not claim the work as your own, provide the author’s byline with each post you reprint and provide either a link back to American Conservative Daily.
All such links must be live and you are not required to syndicate all authors or posts from American Conservative Daily.
You may not alter the content of any material here in any way when syndicating it to your own sites. If you do not plan to contribute on a near daily basis, odds are you will be a better fit for The Land of The Free.

Please include the location of your RSS feed if you have one as your odds of being accepted will depend greatly on how easy it will be for us to include your posts without having to do each one by hand.

Email Use Policy:

Warning!  Warning!  Any and all emails sent to any of these addresses as well as any communication with Mr. Jackson directly becomes the property of Land of the Free Studios, Inc.  This means that when you send an email you give permission for its contents to be reprinted along with your email address and other information.

We particularly like to do this when emails are sent by barking moonbats to expose their idiocy.  So if you don’t want to see what you have written appear here or on any of our other sites then you should not send emails.

Book Reviews (General):

Recently, as this site has grown, I have been getting quite a few requests to review books and manuscripts. As a general policy, I do not solicit books for review. However if you are with a publishing house or an independent author and would like to submit a book to be reviewed, you may do so. Simply consider the following:

- The review of any book will be brutally honest. If I don’t like your book, I will say so. If you can’t handle a possibly negative review then do not submit books for possible review.
- If a book doesn’t grab my interest within the first couple pages I will probably not even finish it and you will not get a review.
- I will not pay you to submit advance copies for review nor will I pay for shipping and handling or other costs. You want your book reviewed? You send it. You pay the fees.
- I will not accept any form of payment (above and beyond simply the free copy of the book) to perform a review in order to keep an objective stance on the material.
- I will accept books to review that have some sort of relation to this site and the readership that comes here. They should be on topics like (but not limited to) history, politics, conservative principles, the founding fathers, etc. Please do not submit cookbooks, travel guides, etc because they will not be reviewed.
