New Contributor Announcement – Tom Bowler

American Conservative Daily is proud to announce that we will now be including Tom Bolwer’s writings as part of our site. Mr. Bowler has been gracious enough to allow us to syndicate his posts which appear on his site libertarianleanings.com.

We believe that Mr. Bowler’s writings will fill in some gaps with regards to commentary and only serve to make this site an even more complete repository for conservative thought.

ACD Discontinues Publication of J. Grant Swank’s columns

American Conservative Daily has officially ceased the publication of columns by Mr. Swank. I wish to apologize to our readers for the way that some of his posts degraded and became so far away from what we had originally hoped they would. I of course take full responsibility for Mr. Swank’s columns appearing on this site since I was the one that made the decision to syndicate him originally.

The fact is however that for every reasonable post by Mr. Swank, there were three that were completely out of character with what we want to promote, that degenerated into insanity and we did not want to be put in a position where either myself or the staff are going to have to defend those that were unreasonable.

A couple points for clarification.

First: No one on staff (meaning the Admin or Moderators) agrees with Mr. Swank’s continual and belligerent assertion that Barack Obama is a Muslim currently. That of course doesn’t mean that we like Barack Obama as a presidential candidate or that we will ignore his connections to the religion which grow stronger by the day or the fact that he was at one time a Muslim.

We believe that the Senator believes he is a Christian, although he is at best a highly liberal Christian who has bought into a bastardized form of Christianity in which it is actually ok to covet the belongings of others and use the government to acquire/steal them. He apparently hold this belief, of course, despite the clear commandments of God against such actions.

Second: No one on staff (meaning the Admin of the Moderators) agrees with Mr. Swank’s continual bashing of the Mormon faith as a “cult”. It is clear that Mr. Swank does not care much for Mormons but his assertions go well beyond reasonable discourse. Neither myself nor any of the moderators here are in fact Mormons just in case someone might believe that he has offended our own religious beliefs.

It is true however that each of us find the whole story concerning the origin of the Mormon faith just a little more than highly suspicious and maybe even a little nutty. However as we have jointly said previously there are some people that find the whole Jesus Christ rising from the dead thing that we each believe in nutty as well.

Beyond that however we do respect the Mormons as brothers and sisters in Christ even though they have different beliefs and we do not equate them to the polygamist offshoots that get into trouble every now and again and which are not endorsed by the church. To do so would be akin to holding other Christian sects accountable for the actions of Westboro Baptist Church and their insanity.

As for existing posts by Mr. Swank, I am still contemplating what to do with them. Some of them are good. Some of them are bad. I think in many of the bad ones members of this site including the staff have denounced them. As such, for the time being, they will remain for commentary by members of this site if you wish to chime in on them.

Site Maintenance Tonight

American Conservative Daily will be undergoing a site upgrade tonight. While we have tested this upgrade several times to ensure that all the features of the site will continue to function as intended, Murphy’s Law has a habit of taking over and throwing a curve or three at us every time we go through this proceedure.Please bear with us and report any bizarre behavior to webmaster-at-thelandofthefree.net (replace the -at- with an “@”).

This upgrade should help speed up the site which, due to continuing growth, has begun to experience some choppiness and lag issues during peak times of the day. This is both good and bad in that it shows how much people love this site but also that it requires time and energy on our part to maintain the quality visitors expect.

ACD Welcomes Jo From Jo’s Cafe - New Contributor

I want to take just a second to welcome Jo, from Jo’s Cafe, to American Conservative Daily. As most of you know, we have been expanding this site and looking for authors to help round out the “evil conservative” opinions that we present. Jo has agreed to allow us to syndicate her site and has commented at times on this site in the past. Some of you may recognize her from her comments. I have been watching and browsing Jo’s Cafe for some time and believe that her posts will be a perfect fit for what we are trying to accomplish here.

Jo talks about politics and current events but also other important issue such as Diabetes which is a disease that many Americans suffer from. Jo is a veteran of the US Army who has lived all over the United States and has been living with Type II Diabetes (read more).

So it is with great pleasure that I welcome Jo to the site.

I will be getting reviews up as soon as possible starting with Frum’s book which I have already begun reading. Please be assured that I am not accepting any form of payment for these reviews and my opinions of them will be honest and brutally so if need be. You expect honesty from me and I will give you honesty.

I am planning on it taking about two weeks for me to read each book, process it and get an opinion ready.

ACD Site Update Nearly Done

I want to thank everyone for their patience over the past three and a half weeks as I have been working on updating the look, feel and performance of American Conservative Daily. It’s been no small feat, but it is nearly done. There is just some layout tweaking that is needed.

Some of the changes you will have noticed:

New look and feel of homepage.Effective use of space is always important and you’ll notice that I have rearranged the way current posts are viewed on the home page. You will also notice the addition of recommended reading links as well as other features such as archives of recent posts from our most often viewed categories to help keep you up to date on them.

You will also notice that I have removed the direct “comment” links for posts from the home page. Why? Because as this site has exploded in the number of visitors it is drawing trolls would read the excerpt on the front page, click the comment link and then leave some nonsensical rant without actually reading the entire post. This way now you at least have to go to the post before commenting.

It also provides spam bots with a harder time to spam the comments section. Even though our spam filters are top notch, the fact that there was a direct link to the comment section on the main page was allowing them to place undo load on the system.

Since this change was made a week ago, load from spam bots is down 99%.

Temporary removal of Recommended Books following new posts.Why? Because the method I had been using with Amazon was causing pages to load very slowly at times when there was a lot of load on the servers or not at all causing the layout to break. They will return in the future at some point but not for now.

What we have now is a script from Amazon that links relevant text in posts to items on Amazon. These links are served by Amazon and should not be considered as endorsements by myself or this site for the products.

Removal of the inside joke from the Right Things Ad.It was cute before the site started to grow so much to receive that email or two a day complaining about the “misspelling” (the use of “of” instead of “off”) from people who didn’t understand the joke or the reference but now that this site is attracting millions of unique viewers a year I’ve grown weary of explaining it to people who are really just trying to use it as a way of discrediting this site and the opinions here.

Sorry long time members, but it along with other inside jokes imbedded around the site have been removed.

New “I Hate You” Thread.Comments that have no purpose other than trolling or ranting about this site will now be moved and archived into the “I hate you” thread to keep them separate from legitimate discussions of issues in posts.

Moderators Now Have Titles Added.To avoid confusion among those that are now coming to the site, I have added titles to the moderators so people will know who they are and not be confused when they give directives.

New Member Features.If you are a member you’ll notice a lot of new features in the member section of this site. You can visit there and take a look around. The members message board has been updated and revamped as well.

Membership registrations are still closed however. We are not accepting new members to the private side of this site at this time because the community is strong and the way we like it right now. However in the future we will be opening up a new level of site membership and promoting all existing members to “Gold Membership”.

The “Gold” level of membership will be for people who have been with this site since near the beginning and of course will remain free of charge. “Gold” level members will have access to their own forums and member side features that new members will not. Further details on this will be available as it comes time to implement this change.

What hasn’t changed?American Conservative Daily hasn’t changed in terms of the great commentary that we have become known for. We still are committed to providing insight into the news and events of the day and plan on doing it for quite some time.

With the grace of God we will continue to grow and be a thorn in the side of liberals, anarchists and wanna-be conservatives for years to come!

Official “I Think You’re An Idiot”/”I Hate You” Thread

In order to provide people who come here with no other purpose than to basically call those that post on this site idiots or espouse hatred towards liberty I present the official repository for such comments. I no longer want such comments clogging up other discussions that occur.

All such comments made in other posts will be moved here. You can also just post here and vent about how much you hate liberty, freedom, unalienable rights and so on if it makes you feel better. Think of it as a “public service” for our more liberal minded friends.

Welcome Again Senate Staffers!

I wanted to give another shout out to the Senate Staffers coming here in droves as of late. I have noticed a lot of interest by you folks, based on the tracking I do of who comes here and what they are reading, are interested in some of my comments and those of others on the Law of the Sea Treaty.

I hope you learn something and take back to your bosses that LOST is a BAD idea.

Not that I hold out much hope.
