Happy Independence Day!!

Gene Lalor | July 4, 2013

It’s redundant for me or anyone else to say our nation is at a crossroads on July 4th, 2013.

We first approached that uncertain road in 2008 when we elected as president of the United States a virtual unknown and followed that foolish decision in 2012 when we re-elected that still unproven president on the bases of his popularity with 13% of the electorate, supplemented by a sufficient number of the votes of those still suffering from white guilt and the votes of the ill-informed.

But, forget all that for a while, forget the Arab Spring which is rapidly turning into an Arab Cesspool, forget that our country is broke and divided like it has rarely been divided before while our First Family traverses the globe as if it were royalty, forget all the wars and rumors of wars and sit back and listen to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQIWhqjWhpo

Even better, sing along:

God Bless The USA

If tomorrow all the things were gone

And I had to start again

with just my children and my wife,

First to be living here today,

‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom.

I’m proud to be an American

where at least I know I’m free,

who gave that right to me,

And I gladly stand up next to you

‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land

to the hills of Tennessee,

Across the plains of Texas

From Detroit down to Houston

and New York to L.A.,

and it’s time we stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American

And I won’t forget the men who died

who gave that right to me,

and defend her still today,

‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land

God Bless the U. S. A.

Live it up on the 4th of July and celebrate the 237th anniversary of the date on which we announced our “Declaration of Independence” by thinking about the words of the of “The Star Spangled Banner:” http://bit.ly/3p5gE

Also well worth a look and a listen is a 5 minute video composed by 15 year old Lizzie Palmer who brilliantly reminds us of the men and women in our armed forces who are risking their lives every day to serve our country and preserve our liberties: http://bit.ly/k7xbp

Above all. remember that our nation may be stressed and under attack on many fronts, both domestic and foreign, but our flag is “still there” and so, too, is the American spirit.
