Help CCAGW Elect a Fiscally Conservative Senate

CAGW | August 23, 2012

The Democratic-controlled Senate just celebrated its 1,200th day without fulfilling one of the most basic duties of government:  passing a budget.

Our country’s unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent since February, 2009, the longest stretch since World War II.

America faces its fourth straight year of record $1 trillion-plus budget deficits, and the national debt, now at $15.9 trillion, continues to skyrocket.

This November marks one of the most important elections our country has ever faced.  We must decide between letting America continue to careen down the path of reckless spending that will ultimately lead to bankruptcy, or forcing a change of course that will restore fiscal discipline in Washington and pave the way for economic growth and prosperity.

That is why the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) urges you to help us fire Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) from the Majority Leader’s post, along with his big-spending cohorts, and elect a fiscally conservative U.S. Senate.

No battle for the future of this country is more important than the battle for control of the Senate.

I say that because if the Senate remains under Democratic control, Sen. Reid will be able to block every initiative to cut spending and taxes that a President Romney puts forward.  Remember, one of the keys to President Reagan’s bold successes during his first year in office was that Republicans also won the Senate in 1980.

Conversely, if President Obama wins reelection, we must have a fiscally conservative Senate that will stand with the House of Representatives in blocking more of the President’s big-spending, high-tax, hyper-regulatory policies.

As America’s #1 taxpayer watchdog organization, CCAGW is uniquely positioned to identify for the American public which senators are most responsible for the runaway spending that is piling a mountain of debt on our children and grandchildren.

Using our widely respected Congressional Ratings, CCAGW can serve as an independent voice publicizing the records of those members of the Senate who have consistently voted to increase spending, raise taxes, and expand the size of government and its reach into our everyday lives.

In election after election, our Ratings have received major media play, and political campaign professionals tell us that they have made a direct impact in  key races.

In fact, in 2010, we used our Ratings to widely publicize the voting records of the biggest spenders in the House who were supporting then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).  While I won’t say we were singlehandedly responsible for the Republican takeover of the House that year, we played a key role in helping challengers win in race after race across the country.

Now it’s time to set our sights on the Senate.

But we can only achieve this with your help…

With your CCAGW contribution of $10.00, $15.00, $25.00, $35.00, or more today, you can make a strong statement in favor of a smaller, less costly, more efficient government by helping CCAGW elect a more fiscally responsible Senate.

Enough Americans and the news media know and trust CCAGW and our Congressional Ratings that if we wage a campaign using them against the biggest spenders in the Senate, we will play a major role in defeating a number of them and stripping Sen. Reid of his Majority Leader post.

The financial future of our nation is at stake and there are less than 12 weeks to go before November’s elections.  Fiscal conservatives only need to pick up four seats in the Senate to fire Majority Leader Reid.    I hope I can count on your support.

Sincerely,
