The Olympics–A Dream Come and Gone

Gene Lalor | July 29, 2012

Olympic Rings.svg  The games have begun!  Now, let’s call them a wrap!

The Olympics have devolved into a cesspool of  international propaganda, intrigue, and cheating–not to mention a subsidized bacchanalian venue for young athletes who could just as well fornicate on their own dime rather than using the 150,000 condoms (15 per athlete) distributed by the United States Olympic Committee.

Sandra Fluke would be appreciative of the USOC condom largesse but are contributors to the USOC aware their dollars are helping pay America’s Olympians to safely do what they would do even without free prophylactics?

The inspiration for the modern Olympics, the ancient Greek religious/athletics festival dating to 776 B.C., was beset with corruption and so, too, is the modern Olympiad.  The chief difference is that today we spend billions staging the events whereas the wiser Greeks back then spent little and benefitted from a suspension of city-state wars, conflicts they resumed soon after the games.

Our conflicts continue during the games.

As for contraception, the naked Greek athletes were on their own but, since they were all male, the chance of procreating with their fellow athletes was less than minimal.

Aside from publicity for the host nation, there are few perks derived from hosting the modern Olympics and the potential financial liabilities far outweigh any benefits, a reality which could reach astronomical proportions should Israeli suggestions of terrorist attacks at the 2012 London Summer Olympics come to fruition and Mitt Romney’s negative critique of security preparedness turns out to be accurate.

The admirable goals of the modern Olympiad, of buff, young athletes promoting brotherhood and  equanimity, of demonstrating to the world that nations could compete peacefully without destroying one another, were exploded in 1972 when Muslim terrorists murdered 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the Munich massacre.

Those unprovoked attacks were neither unprecedented nor the last instances of un-brotherly Olympic behavior.

To wit: After being rebuffed in his attempt to ban blacks and Jews from the 1936 Games of the XI Olympiad in Berlin, Adolph Hitler nevertheless exploited the event to showcase Naziism and gain respectability; the 1956 Melbourne Hungarian-Russian bloodbath; the disgraceful black power salute at the 1968 Mexico City; the boycotts of the 1980 (Moscow) and 1984 (Los Angeles) Olympics; the deadly 1996 bombing in Atlanta; the bribery scandals at the 2002 Salt Lake City games; the rampant cheating by the Chinese in Beijing in 2008 and the USSR’s customary cheating practices.

Regardless of whether terrorists again attack Olympians or whether Romney’s hints of chaos are realized, the Olympiad is a joke and this year’s edition promises to be even more of a farce based on the super-politicized opening night ceremonies as well as by past performances.

Leftist Oscar-winning British director Danny Boyle who directed “Slumdog Millionaire” whipped up an extravaganza which must have been applauded by George Soros, Obamacare aficionados, the AFL-CIO, NARAL, NOW, and every other liberal organization on the planet.

Boyle’s show has been described as ”A celebration of free healthcare, the trade union struggle, the battle for women’s rights and a fleeting lesbian kiss” and criticized in a tweet by Tory MP Aidan Burley as “The most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen–more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state!  Welfare tribute next?  Thank God the athletes have arrived! Now we can move on from leftie multi-cultural crap.”

I wouldn’t bet on that, Mr. Burley!

Boyle, of course, denied any political motivations even though his apolitical entertainment featured ”idyllic rural Britain being overtaken by the Industrial Revolution, a 10-minute sequence celebrating the state-run National Health Service and Britain’s first televised lesbian kiss . . . in a fast-moving montage of film and TV clips [and] dancers formed [in] the shape of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament badge and other performers represented the struggle of trade union movements.” (

Non-political, my ass!  I presume then that the IOC wasn’t acting PC in honoring the 52 Brits killed in Muslim suicide bombings in the 2005 attacks on London’s transit system while ignoring the Israelis murdered at the ’72 Olympics.

On Friday night, the Queen picked at her nails, the other Royals seemed bored, and I personally can’t wait for the synchronized swimming, ping pong, and dressage competition.

Instead of the USOC foisting either the summer or winter Olympiads on the public every two years, the money would be better spent on Michelle Obama’s pet project of making fat American kids skinnier or perhaps just re-staging old Olympic mud wrestling and tug of war events and then sending everyone home, without condoms.

The IOC is a slur against mankind. No greater example then the granting of a “Wall to separate the Muslims from the Jews during a track practice as per requested by the Muslims! The IOC erected the barrier because “the sight of a Jew” offended the Muslim! Enough said and the main reasons I don’t bother with the Olympics.
