It is desperation time for GOP caucus goers in Iowa. That is how I read the latest polls coming out of Iowa from NBC News/Marist, Rasmussen Reports, Insider Advantage, PPP and CNN/Time which all show Rick Santorum surging into double digits as they search for an alternative to Romney, Gingrich and Paul who are all untenable to conservatives once they get to know the positions of each. When averaged together, Santorum has 14% support.
Yes, Santorum is apparently the flavor of the week and is no doubt hitting the state hard touting himself as a real “conservative”. Of course I’ve explored this myth before in my widely circulated article from 2006 “If Santorum Is “Conservative” We’re In Trouble” which shows how unconservative Mr. Santorum really is based on his own campaign literature.
The field has really been in a shambles since Mr. Cain got taken down over what are still unproven charges, shocking I know, ranging from sexual harassment to an extramarital affair. And it is a mad dash to the finish among some of the least conservative candidates in the race.
