Joe Biden Says the Taliban is Not Our Enemy?

Move America Forward | December 23, 2011

In a shocking gaffe in an interview with Newsweek Magazine, our own Vice President Joe Biden had this to say:

“…the Taliban per se is not our enemy. That’s critical. There is not a single statement that the president has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy…”

How can any person who calls himself or herself a patriotic American utter such a statement as that – or even agree with it?

Biden was trying to make the case that if the Taliban agrees to negotiate – as Obama has hinted about doing – then the United States can claim victory and go home. Then Obama can get the credit so that he would be re-elected despite his horrendous record on foreign affairs.

Maybe that is the problem with the Obama Administration, they can’t tell the difference between our friends and enemies. Not only would the Taliban pose a threat to the stability of Afghanistan and our interests there, they also believe in unifying the world under an Islamic caliphate that would never tolerate a free America.

Trying to imply that the Taliban – who plant bombs that kill and maim our troops and shoot at them every day – could somehow become anything but our enemy is an affront to our troops and a slap in the face of every service-member who has ever been shot at, hurt, or even killed by The Taliban.

Ignoring the fact that its extremely difficult to distinguish Taliban from Al Qaeda in the first place – more of our men and women have been killed by the Taliban than Al Qaeda – our war is indeed against both – and Joe Biden should know better than to suggest otherwise.

This is the sad…infuriating… lack of leadership in the White House today. Biden and Obama are both guilty of it – and if you’re not absolutely fed up with it, you should be.

President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and their whole team, is leading us down a path of reconciliation and appeasement with an enemy who has killed Americans in the name of Allah and can’t be trusted to give up their jihad – ever.
