From The Who Cares Department

J.J. Jackson | November 30, 2011

Who is Rep. William Panek? If you have never heard I him you are in good company. He is an insignificant state representative from New Hampshire. But he is making news because he is shifting his support from Cain to Gingrich.

His excuse for why is pretty much political. Reports CNN:

“One or two allegations, it kind of piqued my interest, but you know, it’s politics,” Panek said. “But with a long-term, ongoing affair I’d kind of had enough.”

So what Mr. Panek is saying is that a few false allegations of sexual harassment are nothing to sneeze at. But a false allegation of an affair? Whoa! That’s one too many false allegations too far!

Panek is just trying to jump on the political coattails of who he thinks is the flavor of the week. When it was Cain, he was for Cain. Now that it is Newt, and Panek not being loyal to anything other than his own political image, he is for Newt.

Considering that Newt, with his belief in single payer health care mandates and pushes for amnesty for illegals is very different politically from Herman Cain it is hard to make the case that this is anything but political maneuvering. Listen, I could understand the switch if Cain had admitted to the affair or any of the numerous other claims against him. The you can make the case to change on grounds of morality. But until that or proof comes out making a switch like this appears as it is, just a political decision by a political beast.

Cain doesn’t stand a chance in New Hampshire. He never did. This is a state that loves liberal leaning Republicans like Mitt Romney. Hell, it was the state that revived John McCain in 2008 because they so feared a more conservative option getting the nomination that they rushed to vote for him.

Ultimately this is relegated to the who cares file. Who cares what a politician making a political maneuvers thinks. If you do, then you are part of the problem. At least Newt has had the political balls to come out and say that these mere allegations do not disqualify Herman Cain because they are just allegations and Newt has been down that slanderous road himself before. But I bet that he won’t call and chastise Panek for this political switch. Why? Because Newt is a political beast himself. If he had an ounce of integrity and believed truly what he says on the matter he would tell Panek to stand by his man and that he doesn’t want his support just because he is too scared to stand strong.
