This Statement By Former President Clinton Needs Some Work
J.J. Jackson | October 30, 2011
Former President Clinton has been able to craft an image of himself as a centrist. Not only is that image stupidly believed by many, mostly liberal Democrats who want to convince themselves that the Democratic Party of today would be downright loved by the likes of Joseph Stalin, but it flies in the face of reality.
While at times during his Presidency he was indeed forced to a moderate and even a conservative stance on some issue or another by a Republican controlled Congress, this is still the man that thought higher taxes and universal health care were swell ideas.
For those of you out there who actually think Clinton was a centrist Democrat, this statement by him puts the lie to that:
“I have a pretty good idea how the 21st century works and (pause) there’s not a single successful country on the planet that operates on the theory that the government is the problem (pause) not one. Every successful country has both a strong private economy and a smart, strong government that work together to provide economic opportunity, educational opportunity, provide decent health care and get into the future.”
Really? You have countries in Europe and even the United States itself collapsing under the weight of “strong government” and you still have the audacity to make this statement Mr. Clinton?
The only way this statement is true is if we edit it a little. The following, corrected statement would be true:
“I don’t have a pretty good idea how the 21st century works and (pause) there’s not liberal out there in who believes there is a single successful country on the planet that operates on the theory that the government is the problem (pause) not one. Every liberal believes that a successful country has both a strong private economy and a smart, strong government that work together to provide economic opportunity, educational opportunity, provide decent health care and get into the future.”
Additions in bold are my edits to make the statement a true one.
