Help Win CAGW’s “Prime Cuts”!

CAGW | September 30, 2011

With your immediate help today, we are poised to win some of our largest ever reductions in deficit spending.

Congress and the so-called “Super Committee” created by the legislation that increased the debt ceiling are under intense pressure to slash runaway, big-government spending.

We must capitalize on this unique opportunity to put America back on sound financial footing by winning as many as possible of the cost-saving recommendations in CAGW’s 2011 Prime Cuts.  But to build the groundswell of popular support it will take to succeed, I need to ask you to join our Campaign to Win CAGW’s “Prime Cuts” today.

Allow me to explain why your support is so critical right now. . .

. . .as a result of the debt ceiling legislation, if by January 15, 2012 Congress does not enact at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years in deficit reductions, automatic cuts will kick in that will dramatically slash defense spending by $600 billion.

As you know, CAGW is a long-standing leader in identifying and helping to eliminate billions of dollars in wasteful defense spending, including our recent victory to save $3 billion through the elimination of the alternate engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.  However, the automatic cuts would wipe out vital defense programs, not just the fat.

The former Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Admiral James Lyons, recently warned that the military is already being “hollowed out.”  He summed up the threat we face by saying the Super Committee needs to recognize that failing to reach an agreement on spending cuts could result in “potentially disastrous” cuts in defense, which would threaten “our freedom and way of life.”

It’s absolutely imperative that we help the Super Committee slash the massive federal deficit that threatens our financial future and prevent these devastating defense cuts that would jeopardize our national security.  CAGW’s 2011 Prime Cuts Report is a vital key to winning this historic battle.

So please, before you do anything else today, join our Campaign to Win CAGW’s “Prime Cuts” by making a tax-deductible contribution to CAGW.

Our highly sought-after Prime Cuts Report contains the most comprehensive, best-documented listing of wasteful items in the federal budget, all of which can be immediately eliminated.  Prime Cuts’ recommendations would save American taxpayers $1.8 trillion over the next five years – more than enough to meet the Super Committee’s goal of $1.2 trillion in deficit reductions over 10 years.

Allow me to highlight just three of the hundreds of recommendations found in our report:

The White House is still calling for massive tax increases to fund additional “stimulus” programs that will further expand the size and power of government.  Congressional Republicans are maintaining their absolute opposition to any legislation that includes new or higher taxes.

Our report contains scores of politically palatable cuts in the most obscene wasteful deficit spending that can help break this stalemate and avoid the “potentially disastrous” defense cuts.  But we need your support today to rally the American people and build a consensus for Prime Cuts’ commonsense recommendations while the Super Committee is meeting right now on Capitol Hill.

That’s why I urge you to increase your involvement in our work by joining our Campaign to Win CAGW’s “Prime Cuts.”

Specifically, your contribution will help in two critical ways:

  1. It will enable us to reach out and rally hundreds of thousands of opinion leaders, activists and dedicated fiscal conservatives to build overwhelming public pressure for these vital spending cuts; and,
  2. It will enable CAGW’s Research Team to arm our allies on the Super Committee and in Congress with the facts, figures and arguments needed to make the case for deep spending cuts, rather than tax increases, to reduce the deficit.

Thanks to the financial support of concerned Americans like you, Congress enacted 48 of the recommendations contained in our 2010 Prime Cuts Report, saving taxpayers $30.1 billion in the first year and $108.8 billion over five years.  With your support today, I am confident that we can capitalize on the unique opportunity presented by the Super Committee to win even larger and more significant savings for taxpayers.

But we can’t wage this historic battle without your increased involvement in our work.  Please help us put America back on sound financial footing by joining our Campaign to Win CAGW’s “Prime Cuts” with your largest possible contribution of $25.00$35.00$50.00$100.00, or more today.

Sincerely,

P.S.  Our nation is in serious financial trouble and now our national security may be placed in jeopardy.  With your support today, we will build enormous public pressure for deep spending cuts and arm our allies on the Super Committee and in Congress with the facts, figures and arguments they need to change our nation’s course and save us from bankruptcy, while preventing debilitating cuts in our national defense.  Help us wage this critical battle by joining our Campaign to Win CAGW’s “Prime Cuts” with your contribution of $25.00$35.00$50.00$100.00, or more today.  This is one of the most important moments in our nation’s history, and we need you NOW!
