Going To See A Marine In Mississippi, Part One

Carl | August 31, 2011

Join us in our journey to Keesler AFB to see our daughter, LCpl Andrews, USMC, graduate from her MOS training.

We left Pennsylvania early on a Wednesday to head to Biloxi Mississippi.

Damn GPS piece of crap.

So I’m trying to get the GPS straightened out, I look up and what do I see?

MAN, you take your eyes off the road for just one second!

About then it was time to stop for some gas and some lunch.

You Southern folks are nice, but what the hell is up with the food you eat??
I tried grits when we went to Parris Island last year, I didn’t see the attraction, and now this??!
DAMN!

So, anyway I think this Hardee’s was in Virginia, we had already passed through Maryland and West Virginia.

Before we knew it, we were crossing into:

Tennessee.
The Grand Ole Opry.
Graceland
Beale Street
Sun Studios
(All of which we’ll get to at a later date.)

Even someone who has been living under a rock would soon figure out that they are serious about their music in Tennessee, as this was one of the first things we saw:

To give you some idea of how huge that guitar is, we took this picture from across a 4-lane interstate highway with a grass-covered median between the lanes that appeared to be 20 feet wide.

OK, time to get back on the road, we’ll continue with the rest of the trip soon.

Before we go, we couldn’t help wondering if the folks in Ohio know about this?
