RSSBoehner’s Boner

Lando Calrissian, when he finally realized Lord Vader was screwing him in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, famously muttered to himself, “This deal is getting worse all the time.”
Conservatives should be muttering the exact same thing today as Speaker Boehner threatens, cajoles and pleads for votes to pass what I derisively refer to as Boehner’s Boner.
It is the latest in a series of bad plans put forth by Republicans that does not end the rampant spending of Congress. Sure, some of these plans have been better than others, but none of them from Paul Ryan’s plan to Boehner’s Boner have come close to solving the problem. It seems that the longer this while fight goes on the worse and worse the deal becomes.
Boehner’s plan cuts a pathetic $900 billion ($90 billion per year) from trillions of dollars per year in deficits. It promises lots of future things but we have all seen how good the promises of our Representatives are haven’t we?
Many so-called Tea Party conservatives are preparing to fall in line behind Boehner’s Boner which will saddle us with more debt and their credentials as such are going to be severely challenged.
Spending more, even just in the short term, is not a solution. A “path” to a balanced budget (as Senator Toomey R-PA supports) doesn’t solve the problem. The problem is only solved by cutting today, balancing our incoming revenues with our outlays, and taking our lumps now.
The only alternative is to let our children and grandchildren take those lumps for us. That is wrong. And in the real world it is called child abuse.
