Urgent Supreme Court Deadline: Protect the Pledge
Jay Sekulow, ACLJ | April 28, 2011
It’s an organization that mocks Christianity – an organization that will stop at nothing to remove the Pledge of Allegiance including the phrase “under God” – from public life.
They’re the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) – and they’re pushing hard to strike the Pledge from public schools.
They just suffered a significant loss at a federal appeals court, so now they’re asking the Supreme Court to take the case – and declare the recitation of the Pledge in New Hampshire schools unconstitutional!
The American Center for Law and Justice is fighting back. We have just days remaining to prepare and file a critical amicus brief to urge the Supreme Court to reject this case.
Please send a powerful message to the Supreme Court to reject this fruitless attempt by the Freedom From Religion Foundation to twist and distort the Constitution with their flawed reasoning. Join the ACLJ’s Committee to Protect the Pledge today!
As part of our Committee, you’ll be helping the ACLJ protect the Pledge from this frivolous lawsuit. We will ask the Justices of the Supreme Court to let the lower court decision stand – a decision which correctly concluded that the Pledge embraces patriotism and does not endorse religion.
As the appeals court put it: “The New Hampshire School Patriot Act’s primary effect is not the advancement of religion, but the advancement of patriotism through a pledge to the flag as a symbol of the nation.”
A victory in this case will help secure the Pledge of Allegiance – including the phrase “under God” – for all Americans and American schoolchildren.
It will also strike a blow for common sense – and for our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage. The Freedom From Religion Foundation is claiming that a child who is required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance – or even overhear other children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance while he or she remains silent as a matter of principle – “suffers.”
In fact, they characterize this as a form of “child neglect,” if not “child abuse”! There are many serious and tragic instances of real child abuse – emotional, physical, sexual, etc. – across our nation; it is insulting and offensive for the FFRF to call reciting the Pledge of Allegiance “abuse”!
On top of this outrageous position, the FFRF is making a mockery of our Christian faith. They are essentially attempting to rewrite our nation’s historical religious heritage.
The FFRF’s goal is nothing less than to strip the country of Christianity. They aim to eradicate America of any hint of faith … and it puts YOUR freedom on the line in a very real way!
As you join our Committee to Protect the Pledge today, you will be helping the ACLJ preserve the entirely appropriate and constitutional position of our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage – and put a stop to the wasting of resources in our U.S. judicial system.
Our brief is due at the Supreme Court of the United States on May 6 – so we must move quickly. Please help us meet this urgent deadline – and send a powerful message to the Supreme Court: Reject this attempt to twist and distort the Constitution with flawed reasoning. Protect the Pledge!
Thank you so much for standing with the ACLJ.
Sincerely,
Jay Sekulow
ACLJ Chief Counsel
