The Obamas’ Easter
Gene Lalor | April 27, 2011
Demonstrating to the world one mo’ time that he is not a Muslim but rather a devout Christian, Obama and family joined the flock at the predominantly black Shiloh Baptist Church in Northwest Washington for Easter morning services.
His attendance at Shiloh was something of a surprise since he hadn’t bothered to issue an Easter proclamation. He may have felt he had that base covered in view of the White House prayer breakfast he hosted last Tuesday although he had made certain to issue proclamations in recognition of Earth Day, Hannukah, and every major Muslim religious holiday including Ramadan, Eid-al-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-al-Adha.
Oh, well, he did permit a White House Easter egg roll which must count for something. Christians have learned to thank God for small blessings from this Christian president.
Unfortunately, the service at Shiloh wasn’t filmed or recorded, unfortunate because Shiloh’s pastor, Wallace Smith, is a racial agitator and it would have been informative to hear his Easter sermon.
Last year he opined, “When you look at what’s going on, it may not be Jim Crow anymore. Now Jim Crow wears blue pinstripes, goes to law school and carries fancy briefs and cases. And now Jim Crow has become ‘James Crow, Esquire,’ and he doesn’t have to wear white robes anymore because now he can wear the protective cover of talk radio or can get a regular news program on Fox.”
Not content with lambasting Fox, Wallace broadened his attack to include Rush Limbaugh as another nouveau KKK-er. View and hear Wallace’s indictment of all things conservative in which he also sought to dispel the notion that the election of America’s first black president solves “the question of justice in this nation” here http://bit.ly/ffh5zn
As far as I know, Mr. Smith didn’t identify that regular Fox news program and didn’t deem it necessary to provide a single instance of racism uttered by Limbaugh. Nor did he say anything as inflammatory as Obama’s revered, previous pastor of 20 years, Rev. Jeremiah “God Damn America” Wright but, still, it would have been interesting to hear whether he elaborated on his allegations of racism at the Fox News Network and against Limbaugh.
We assume he could not have been referring to the frequent appearances of liberal guest commentators such as Juan Williams, Bob Beckel, et al. We assume as well that Wallace has never listened to Rush.
Critics of any conservative or of the only counterbalance to network or cable liberals, FNC, rarely if ever elaborate on their attacks believing that their allegations, their unsubstantiated charges, are sufficient in and of themselves.
Nevertheless, it was good to see the Obamas going to church even if the Shiloh Baptist Church pastor is as racist and angry and bitter as Reverend Wright. I don’t put much stock in the idea that God sends bolts of lightning toward those He sees as religious hypocrites but it can’t be discounted when that lightning strikes near the White House on Easter Sunday. It could be a sign.
