Iwo Jima Remembered

66 years ago this week U.S. Marines started one of the most decisive battles in American history, if not all of world history.

Many folks mistakenly believe that the raising of the U.S. flag on Mount Suribachi marked the end of the campaign, the hoisting of Old Glory took place on the fifth day of the battle, Feb. 23rd, however the Marines did not complete the capture of the Japanese-held island until March 26th.
