TSA Agents Upset With Me. Boo-FREAKING-hoo!

J.J. Jackson | November 26, 2010

Yep, I expected this. Any time you pick on government workers they are not inclined to take it very well. This week’s special article, “Holiday Travel Fun With The TSA” and last week’s article, “Rubber Glove Lobby Wins Big With New TSA Pat Down Procedures” are obviously ticking off members of that particular government run agency judging by the emails I am getting. But so too are daily posts from me such as, “TSA Orders Toning Down Of Procedures For Thanksgiving” and also the followup called, “TSA Orders Toning Down Of Procedures For Thanksgiving“.

What is really great are the indignant responses from TSA employees calling for me to apologize! Here’s a clue for those of you asking for this and who are obviously not regular readers of my commentaries; no apology will be forthcoming. See, I am not one of those weak willed, limp-wristed sorts that you can just demand things of and expect them to happen. So you might as well forget it!

And if you think you can intimidate me with threats about what you can have other branches of the government do to me then my advice is to you to go for it and see what happens. Hint: it will not be me that comes up on the short end of the stick. But if you want to try, go right ahead and take your best shot.

Those last two posts I made and cited above have several TSA agents telling me in emails that my actions are going to do nothing except harm national security. Even though they completely deny it when I confront them in a response that there has been a blatant policy of toning down the searches this weekend to keep outrage from spreading, that second post cites confirmation from actual travelers stating that there does indeed seem to be a policy of not using body scanners lately.

Personally with all that evidence I am inclined to believe my source and not shills from the TSA. Of course, this all requires a question to be asked, exactly how is little old me harming national security? Am I harming national security by pointing out what is going on and having a legitimate discussion about TSA procedures? Something that apparently no one in the TSA has done on a serious level? Damn that free speech crap huh?

But beyond outrage directed at me by TSA agents over reporting TSA’s efforts to hide from the public on this busy travel weekend what they have been actually doing to those with airline tickets, many more are oh so outraged over my characterization of TSA agents.

I have been accused of “making false comparisons between the TSA and the NAZIs” and also “fomenting a sense of mistrust for portraying TSA agents as uneducated.”

In my one article mocking the only winners with the new enhanced TSA policy as the terrorists and the “Rubber Glove Lobby” I freely admit I said of TSA agents the following:

It does not bother me even if [the TSA agent] is a pervert who is sitting in a little room wearing a TSA uniform because their application for the burger flipper position at McDonalds was rejected due to insufficient skills.

What’s the matter? A little too close to home? Explain to me how your job requires more skill than a bigger flipper exactly? You look at a screen and look for items that have been determined to be dangerous by a bureaucrat. Then you also have to touch people. Wow! Lots of skill involved there!

What I hear from a lot of TSA agents right now is that I should not be picking on them. They say, laughably, that they do not like to harass airline passengers and that the process of screening is more uncomfortable for them than the person being checked. Yeah, humorously they are saying this in emails. What I hear from them is the complaint that they are, “just following orders.”

When I included #25 of fun things to do at TSA check points a little kid asking the question of, “Mommy, didn’t the guards at the NAZI prison camps also just say that they were ‘following orders’?” well that apparently sent these “just following orders” types into hyper conniption fits! How dare I compare TSA agents to NAZIs they whine!

Hey, if you are going to use the same defense as the prison camp guards during WWII did, then wear the shoe that you have made fit by your own actions. Stop whining to me about how if you stand up to the policy you will lose your jobs and about how you have a family to feed. Because you are only digging yourself a deeper hole in my eyes. You are telling me, in essence, that you don’t care about whose rights you violate because you have a family to take care of saying basically that you don’t give a damn about anyone else’s rights. Yeah, and you wonder why you are getting compared to NAZIs?

Keep the email complaints coming. I do so love to listen to petty little government tyrants whine about how they get no respect!

I am so God damned tired of hearing TSA agents whine about how they are just following orders! You are right! The NAZI guards used that same excuse after the war too!

If something is wrong stand up for the right thing don’t just go along with it for the sake of a job. When you do go along with something that is wrong you are no better than those who gave the order!

There has always been terrorist in this world but if we just keep allowing the TSA to continue putting more and more restraints on us as we travel and say it is for our own good the next thing will be martial law. I believe that is what they are steadily working towards. You don’t hear the tea party people saying anything about smaller government in this situation. What’s up with that!
