VIDEO: Another Democrat Jumps Ship, Joins the GOP

Warner Todd Huston | October 31, 2010

We haven’t seen too many Democrats jumping ship and joining the GOP, but a few have.

The most notable recent switch over was Alabama’s Democrat Congressman Parker Griffith, well known as a moderate, or Blue Dog Democrat, who finally had enough of the Democrats. He dropped his affiliation with the Democrats and joined the GOP.

That was not enough, however, to save his seat as the GOP did not stick with him during the recent primary and instead selected Mo Brooks to face Democrat Steve Raby in Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District.

But with the drubbing that Democrats are likely to sustain in but a few short days, it is likely that more Democrats in purple states will jump the Democrat ship and join the GOP. Perhaps as a harbinger of things to come, the Lt. Governor of Louisiana has done just that.

On October 26, at a Republican Leadership Summit in Baton Rouge, interim Lt. Governor of Louisiana, Scott Angelle, announced his that he is switching to the Republican Party.

Angelle will return to his role as Secretary of State after a new Lt. Gov. is elected in November.
