The Homosexualization of “Sesame Street”

Gene Lalor | October 27, 2010

like Bert from "Sesame   The puppet and Muppet worlds are all atwitter over the latest “evidence” that Bert, one-half of the inseparable Bert and Ernie duo on “Sesame Street,” had finally found his way out of the closet.

Suspicions and rumors have circulated for years that Bert is, let’s just say a little light in the loafers, as in gay, and some Muppet-watchers were quick to pounce on a single word, actually a word contraction tweeted by Bert on Twitter as proof.

Way back on June 11, 2010, ”the famous puppet tweeted about the recent ‘A-Team’ remake by comparing himself to A-Team star Mr-T, saying, ‘Ever notice how similar my hair is to Mr. T’s?  The only difference is mine is a little more “mo,” a little less “hawk.” ‘

Say what?

The Creators of Sesame Street   Now, most adult watchers of “Sesame Street”–let’s not get into why adults would be watching the show or why Ernie is usually not rumored to be gay–would assume Bert was referring to “mo” as in Mr.-T’s “mohawk” in describing his hairstyle but apparently, to those in the “mo” know, “mo” is an abbreviation for homo and Bert was actually outing himself on Twitter.

At least that’s what Ed Kennedy says on a gay, pop culture website, calling the use of “mo,” ”a nice little ‘in joke’ for the gays, and nobody else the wiser about those two adult Muppets who have shared a bedroom for 30+ years.”

Of course, that’s true of Bert and Ernie and their living arrangements.  Another observer has noted that, “Bert and Ernie conduct themselves in the same loving, discreet way that millions of gay men, women and hand puppets do.  They do their jobs well and live a splendidly settled life together in an impeccably decorated cabinet.”  And they do sleep side by side, I always thought, platonically.  Ellen Lewis of the production company Sesame Workshop concurs with me and emphasizes that they are puppets, devoid of sexuality.

Not so, thinks Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), who also points out that ”with more homosexual guests on this season, “Sesame Street” is growing more LGTB-friendly than ever, adding that the children’s show “has a long history of teaching children about diversity and acceptance, and I don’t expect that our community will be left out of that education:” http://tiny.cc/dahka

The contentious issue of how Bert swings aside, Barrios is indisputably right that “Sesame Street” is growing more and more “friendly” toward the gay community.  It’s called brainwashing.

Homosexuals have long known, and have long denied, that their “future” rests with recruiting the young and they have been tireless, relentless, in pursuing America’s young people for decades now, by pushing for “Days of Silence” in schools, through gay parades, even gay proms, any way possible to convince kids that the abnormal gay lifestyle is nothing more than a variant on normality.

And where better to start their propaganda, their brainwashing, than with the quintessential kid show, “Sesame Street” which has recently featured alleged comedienne Wanda Sykes and self-outed actor Neil Patrick Harris as guests as well as a fun parody of “True Blood,” the “gayest show on TV,” according to Newser.com.

Bert isn’t gay but I wouldn’t vouch for the producers of “Sesame Street.”

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” as Jerry Seinfeld used to say.
