Let's Not Lose Sight Of The Significance of September 11, 2001
Given all of the subplots that currently surround the former World Trade Center buildings, it is critical for Americans not to lose sight of the real significance of the events that happened in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington and in a lonely field in Pennsylvania.
It was this day, nine years ago tomorrow, that Islamic fundamentalists hijacked three planes and committed the worst terrorist attack ever on U.S. soil. It was the culmination of attempts that had been made in the past, and highlighted the failings of prior administrations in dealing with this known and ever present threat.
It made clear to the United States that we were indeed involved in a war, and that we needed the resolve and courage necessary to win that war. While we had that resolve for a good amount of time, Americans, and even more so politicians, have very short memories...
