CCAGW Releases 2009 Congressional Ratings
CAGW | September 2, 2010
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) has released its 2009 Congressional Ratings, highlighting those members of Congress whose stellar voting records protecting taxpayers and
saving money have won them the moniker of “Taxpayer Hero” and “Super Hero,” as well as naming the hundreds of members who consistently voted against the fiscal interests of taxpayers during the first session of the 111th Congress. The average vote rating for the entire House of Representatives in 2009 was 31 percent (a 4 percentage point drop from 2008), while the average for the Senate was 39 percent (a 1 percentage point drop from 2008). In the House, seven members (compared to one in 2008) achieved “Taxpayer Super Hero” status with a rating of 100 percent, while 89 House members (compared to 59 in 2008) were “Taxpayer Heroes” with a rating of 80 percent or above. However, the number of representatives with a perfectly abysmal score of zero skyrocketed to 105 last year, up from 34 in 2008. In the Senate, Sens. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) became the first “Taxpayer Super Heroes” since 2005, while 29 senators (compared to 14 in 2008) earned “Taxpayer Hero” status. No senators scored zero, compared to 17 in 2008. Read more about the 2009 Congressional Ratings.
