Promises Broken By Obama
J.J. Jackson | July 23, 2010
President Obama repeatedly promised that he would not increase taxes for families making $250,000 a year or less. But the President’s new health care law promises otherwise. Heritage’s Conn Carroll writes, “Obamacare forces all Americans to purchase a product or face sanction from the Internal Revenue Service. This is clearly a tax”. Even the Obama Justice Department agrees. The department defends the individual mandate’s constitutionality by citing Congress’ power to impose taxes. But Carroll argues this tax is “unprecedented and unconstitutional”: it isn’t a tax on activity but rather on inactivity, namely not purchasing health insurance.
