Yeah, Like Enough Ignorant And Stupid People Don’t Already Vote
J.J. Jackson | May 2, 2010
In every election there are people that do not vote. Some people stay home because they just cannot be bothered to participate in the process and some simply admit that they don’t know enough to make an educated selection at the ballot box. In the other department, those that do vote, we have people that are educated enough to make an informed decision and, sadly, just a lot of plain old ignorant and down right stupid voters who don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.
Take the last presidential election for example. Millions of people rushed out to vote from then Senator Obama who either really believed that his brand of socialism would work (the stupid) while others pulled the lever for him because he sounded smart and they did not believe that he was a socialist (the ignorant). Now look where that has gotten us. One could only imagine how bad it would have been if say everyone had been required to vote.
Well, that is just what one man in Ridgway, Colorado wants.
Residents of this Old West- meets-New Age town can be fined if their fences are too high, they have too many chickens, their dogs aren’t on leashes or their weeds are out of control.
Tom Hennessy would like to add not voting to that list.
Hennessy, a popular Ridgway brewer and pub owner, is proposing that the mostly dirt-street town at the edge of the San Juan Mountains become a national model by enacting a mandatory-voting statute. Residents who don’t bother to vote, for no good reason, would be fined.
“We could do this. It would be a paradigm shift,” Hennessy said. “We could be the great civics lesson in representative democracy.”http://www.denverpost.com/ci_14958536
Gee Tom, you also going to pass a law that requires all of these people who you want to vote to at least have a clue what they are voting for too? And how would you enforce that? Because I am sure that you don’t want a bunch of ignorant people voting right? Maybe we could make everyone attend mandatory classes on the candidates and issues and force them to give up their time to accommodate your desires?
Just one word comes to mind when I read this. That word is dumbass.
Yeah, this is all we need! A bunch of people who don’t want to vote being forced to vote because some dumbass got a law passed which would fine them if they didn’t. I have a better idea. Let’s pass a law that officially declares Tom Hennessy a dumbass and require everyone that sees him to, by law, clock him upside his head with a baseball bat.
One thing is for sure, that would stop some other dumbass from ever proposing this law anywhere else and ever again. Now that, I proudly say, would be a good thing!
