- The Hill newspaper’s Blog Briefing Room highlights Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s campaign to encourage people to read the state’s new illegal immigration bill before they criticize it. One prong of the campaign is a sing-along video singling out politicians who have not read the bill.
- Over the weekend, South Korea formally accused North Korea of torpedoing one of its warships in March. The United States is standing with the South as North Korea threatens retaliation for the accusation.
- The Pentagon has decided to create a specialist online unit to counter cyber attacks.
- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was repeatedly interrupted by an upset crowd as he tried to deliver a speech. Iran is struggling with 25 percent unemployment and rising inflation. The angry interruptions underscore the growing discontent among the Iranian people with their radical government.
- Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who oversees the Afghan theater, is preparing his troops for the single largest operation since the war there began. The battle for Kandahar — the home of the Taliban — is aimed at the group’s spiritual heartland. The campaign, ABC News reports, “may be America’s last chance to win over Afghans.”
