The Double Standard in Action

RACE - book cover  My fellow Americans, we have a crucial election coming up in November, an election which can turn the tide against an administration which has turned its back on America.  In order to win that election, we must unite.  We must reconnect with all those people who deserted us in 2008 and those who were with us but in insufficient numbers and join together to defeat the party of Obama and all they stand for.  We call upon every eligible and ineligible voter who is middle aged or older, who is white, not Latino, and who is male to support us this coming November to overcome the Democrats and take back our great republic from the forces of darkness.

Would the above be considered an outrageous appeal to racism, ageism, and sexism?  It damned well would and should be but President Barack Obama gets a free pass when he says much the same thing and plays the race card.

“Obama speaks with unusual demographic frankness about his coalition in his appeal to ‘young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women who powered our victory in 2008 [to] stand together once again.’ “  See and hear Obama’s racist, exclusionary rhetoric here: http://bit.ly/cvzmzd

Apparently, the president of the United States can do and say those things and no one cringes, no one calls him on it, no one calls him what he is, a black racist out to divide not unite this country.

Likewise, The Sports Hub on Boston’s CBS affiliate WBZ FM 98.5 radio station is free to effectively call a decent All-American quarterback a Nazi, without any repercussions.

Sportscasters can’t say that blacks are better athletes because of their slave history, they can’t say blacks aren’t top swimmers due to their lack of buoyancy, they can’t call women basketball players “nappy-headed ho’s” even in jest without being fired but WBZ’s Fred Toettcher is free to call Tim Tebow a Nazi.

Describing the NFL draft night, in which Tim was drafted by the Denver Broncos, at the Tebow homestead, Toettcher said, “It looked like some kind of Nazi rally . . . so lily-white is what I’m trying to say.  Yeah, Stepford Wives:” http://bit.ly/dc4TMJ

Who are the Nazis?  Tebow and his family and friends?  Who are the Stepford Wives, Tebow’s anti-abortion mom and her relatives?  When does Toettcher get canned?  Where are the protests?  Where are the picket signs?  Where is Al Sharpton when you need him?

Where is the single standard that condemns people like Obama and Toettcher for their racist and intolerant remarks?

On the flip side of the race coin, a white supremacist attorney in Mississippi was bludgeoned and stabbed to death allegedly by a black neighbor who then set the victim’s house on fire: http://bit.ly/9erEGb

Richard Barrett, 67, is believed to have been slaughtered by ex-con Vincent McGee, 22, who was aided and abetted by three others.  His apparent motive?  Unknown, but does it matter?  It may be because Barrett, a wannabe in the white supremacist movement, underpaid him for yard work.

Considering the vicious nature of the attack, that motive is improbable.  Considering Barrett’s avocation, what’s more likely is that it was a clear hate crime based on race.  However, when is the last time a black was convicted–or even accused–of  committing a hate crime?  Such charges always seem to involve the relatively rare white on black crimes.

Perhaps only whites can commit hate crimes.  Perhaps only liberal sports commentators are permitted to call people Nazis.  Perhaps only presidents are allowed to be racists and to set the racial standards for the rest of the nation.
