The last tower falls.

The last tower falls.
Carolyn Hileman

As we await the newest vote or non vote on healthcare it brings back memories, memories of the amnesty bill that we were forced to kill three times, of the anthrax scares that seem to never stop, the fear of opening our mail and watching the last tower fall. I remember thinking during every one of these events; this is America this does not happen here. I remember feeling like crying every time I saw a flag, wondering what was to happen to my country and why no one would stand up to stop it. I feel the same today, I am sitting here helpless, and hoping to God this nightmare will end, waiting for the voice of reason to say enough we will not go through this again, I am not hearing it.

You can argue numbers all day long, you can promise everything you want but at the end of the day this is nothing more than the total destruction of American rights guaranteed them by the constitution. The right to privacy disregarded as one wonders how they will know if I have insurance so that they can fine me 28% of my income if I do not and imprison me if I refuse to pay that fine, how will they know, who will tell them, will it be you? It is odd indeed that on 9/11 we were concerned about an outsider coming in here and taking away our freedoms and today we await our president and his democrat friends to do just that.

I wonder if this is what it felt like when the people in tower two saw the plane coming straight at them. No where to run, no chance of survival, knowing at that moment that life as they knew it was over. I wonder if this was what it felt like on flight 93 when they realized that they were to be a weapon against the United States of America that they themselves were to be the cause of major death and destruction. What must have been running through their minds as that the plane sped to its destination? What courage and determination it took to bring down that instrument of terror knowing full well their lives were over, to put the lives of countless other people ahead of their own and rush the pilots, we need such courage today, we need it now.

Once again our nation stands mesmerized by an attack so brazen, so heinous, so unreal that we just cannot wrap our minds around it, once again the feeling of powerlessness prevails, we have called, we have emailed, we have marched and still we are forced to watch as the last tower falls.
