“Deem & Pass” DOA?

J.J. Jackson | March 21, 2010

Byron York reports that the House Democrats are opting to not use the “Deem & Pass” maneuver liberals have been trying to use to sneak through the Senate version of Obamacare. Apparently this goes along the lines of what I have been saying in that the Democrats simply do not have the votes to accomplish such a plan.

A week ago my sources in the Capitol both agreed that Nancy Pelosi and the socialists only had 192 votesin favor of the move which would include the Senate bill (which would become law after the President signed it) and a package of amendments which would require Senate approval by a 60 vote margin (not likely). Since then, according to my same sources, as of last night the liberals in the House had only 200 solid yeah votes which is still well shy of the 216 they need to even squeak the package through.  And they do not want to squeak it through because it would be far too easy to portray every marginal Democratic Party Representative up for reelection as the “deciding vote” and drop the hammer on them in the court of public opinion which is solidly against this bill.  The Democrats want to pass this with somewhere around 220+ but know they cannot.

York reports:

UPDATE 1: Faced with nervousness within their ranks, Democratic leaders have decided to drop the “Deem & Pass” strategy. That satisfies one Republican demand, which was that House should have a standalone vote on the Senate national health care bill.

We can only wait and see what happens today and get ready for a fight if the left drags us kicking and screaming towards a more Soviet style state than we already have. And yes, we already do have a socialist state. Those facts are clear with all the socialist welfare we already have.
