Sex and the Multi-Married Israeli

Gene Lalor | February 15, 2010

Now that Valentine’s Day is over, the candy partially eaten, the flowers showing the first, telltale signs of wilting, it may be time to consider the plight of a guy who may have taken love to too many levels.

israel_flag  Israeli citizen Goel Ratzon, age 60, “was indicted Sunday on multiple charges including rape, sodomy, enslavement and sexual abuse within the family.”

His “family” consists of 21 wives, most of whom have Ratzon’s name and image tattooed somewhere on their bodies, and 49 offspring.  All lived quietly in run-down Tel Aviv apartments and never disturbed the neighborhood dogs or the neighbors, none of whom reported him to the Mishteret Yisrael, the Israeli cops.

That says something about the Ratzon “family’s” Israeli neighbors although I’m not sure what.

The story about this cult leader doesn’t give the ages of the women but does say they are all young and vulnerable and most came from broken homes.

Some regarded Ratzon as the messiah. Goel Ratzon, 60, was busted in

Moses?  Maybe.  The messiah?  Not even close.

It all brings to mind an old joke about an elderly guy who marries some young thang.  His good buddy frets that such an arrangement could be dangerous to which fretting the lusty old dude responds, “If she dies, she dies.”

None of Ratzon’s many brides are known to have expired due to his amazing amorous activities which produced 2.33 offspring per wife and Goel, a Hebrew name meaning redeemer, seems in fine fettle as well.

The ladies had strict rules to follow, including a prohibition against conversation–except in the living room–and if they “talked nonsense,” they would be fined 200 shekels, or about $50.  They all dressed modestly in long skirts and worked as house cleaners, but only for women, and seemed content with their lot in life as members of a 21st century harem.

What’s equally surprising–and inspiring to some–is that Goel Ratzon conducted his cult activities not out in the boondocks somewhere but in the old Israeli capital and Israeli law is pretty specific about such shenanigans.

Ratzon denies all charges and in a somewhat egotistical statement once declared, “I’m perfect . . . I have everything a woman wants,” and none of his wives/concubines took issue with that braggadochio: http://bit.ly/dDB06q

Ratzon seems to have developed a male cult following far beyond his immediate “family” as Israeli men who may be fearful of applauding him are following his case with great interest.

Word is the cult leader will be defended by, what else, a female attorney.
