Illegal Aliens Eluding E-Verify

Carl Andrews | February 25, 2010

The online tool E-Verify, now used voluntarily by employers, wrongly clears illegal workers about 54 percent of the time, according to Westat, a research company that evaluated the system for the Homeland Security Department.

Although using it voluntarily at present, Republicans in Congress are expected to push for E-Verify to become mandatory.

However, seeing as how the study by Westat shows that the system clears illegal workers 54% of the time, clearly E-Verify needs some “tweaking” before it will be a useful tool against hiring illegal workers.
