Guest or Family
David L Lamon
Key Verse: Matthew 22:10 so those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
This parable of the “Marriage Feast” reveals the whole ball of wax as it concerns those within and without at least from one perspective. It primarily deals with the necessity of being born of the spirit of God. As a matter of fact that is what being a “guest” of the King all is about, the enticement to be born of the spirit. The meaning also has application for the same in that unless one is in total obedience to the whole word even those that were the chosen or those thought of as the “in crowd” could find themselves left out in the cold so to speak. First the New Testament plan of salvation was first given to the Jew and then the Gentile. This parable could be considered an enactment of a setting acted out in the flesh to make a spiritual point. I approach this assuming these servants consisted of gentiles also because God told the Jews the occupying people of the land he promised them would be their servants. At the time of this parable the Jews controlled Israel. As we find in these scriptures the self-righteous Jews when approached and invited to the marriage feast signifying an offer of to become a born again child of God by being filled with the spirit of God by men they would consider as “dogs” [Matthew 7:6, 15:26] repulsed them even to the point of killing them for insulting them by the very fact they would ask them to the feast. The spirit behind the spirit of these men (do-gooders if you will) were like the Pharisee; Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortionist, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. This is one lesson of what a self-righteous spirit can do to destroy a person. Romans 12:3 for I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Matthew 19:30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first. These people were just doing as the Lord told them and nothing more.
The King’s anger was sorely kindled and he not only killed those men but also burned up their city where others abode; Revelation 18:16, 17 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls for in one hour so great riches is come to naught and every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off. America though it has many children of God could see great destruction to their country before the great escape (rapture).
Many were not willing to come to the marriage supper or procrastinated for various reasons such as being satisfied with an already established tradition taught them by their fathers or simply were too caught up in the affairs of this life. [Col 2:8, 2 Thessalonians 3:6] [Luke 21:34]
Matthew 15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Notice the scripture says they found, both bad and good and the wedding hall (place of preparation or instruction) was filled with guests (prospects for spiritual baptism). But when they came for the actual wedding one was found without the proper wedding garment meaning he had not submitted himself as the others had to the commandment of being filled with the spirit of God which is making one’s self ready or properly attired. Matthew 22:14 for many are called but few are chosen.
Being properly clothed is being filled with the spirit of God: 2 Corinthians 5:5, now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 5:2-3 for in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
It is not enough to just heed the call of God or join a church because doing this only qualifies one as a guest but not family. To enter into the family of God obedience to his word is commanded and the word plainly lays out the foundation one must start his/her walk with God. When Jesus gave his command to the disciples in Matthew 28:19, he didn’t tell them to go say what I say but to go and do it. He told them to tarry in the upper room until they be endued with power from on high and it is there they were instructed by the Holy Ghost of the New Testament plan of salvation. If we truly believe the word of God is infallible we must accept Peter did what he was told? Many that were there could obviously see the way they were taught no longer would work in order to be pleasing to God so they asks, Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call meaning until Jesus second coming back to planet earth this plan of salvation would be in effect. It is then and only then that we will no longer need the gifts and operation of the spirit for the edification of the church body because Mark 2:19-20 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bride chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. The same principle applies from now until the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Jesus
Ephesians 3:15-20 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
Romans 8:8-11 so then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any men have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
How to Know if a person is Filled with Holy Ghost
There is only one way to know if one is filled with the spirit of God and that is if he spoke in tongues as the spirit gives utterance. Every instance given in the bible where it was demonstrated the Holy Ghost was received by a human being they spoke in tongues as a sign of having received it. The book of Acts is just that, the demonstration of this happening and nowhere else in scripture is this displayed but only teaching as it concerns what happens when one receives the baptism of the Holy Ghost. These instances are recorded in; Acts 2:4 and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 10:45-46 and they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. How did they know? Because they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Also in Acts 19:6, and when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.
There are many good sincere people that live a life based primarily on recognized attributable Christian living. Many of which one couldn’t distinguish from one that has received the baptism of the Holy Ghost as far as how they lived their life from one that hasn’t. I said that to say this, in most instances the only distinguishable difference lies with one being filled with the Holy Ghost and the other not being filled. Even if one is filled with the Holy Ghost the biggest advantage is first when he comes that is what he is coming for, which is that soul filled with his spirit. That is why he said, John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. Since God is spirit then it takes being filled with his spirit for communion or being dressed properly. If he/she has a sincere fervent prayer life to go along with being full of the Holy Ghost it is much easier to get into the presence of the Lord because of the sensitivity to his spirit and many such experiences with the same. This is not to say one that doesn’t have the Holy Ghost cannot get into the presence of God because they can. The difference is best explained this way; it is one thing to know of God but yet another to know him in the power of his spirit that dwells within the spirit-filled believer and as long as the door is open God is about reaching out to every soul to keep them from the eternal flames that await the unbeliever. The believer can be described this way. John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Once again making reference to the infilling of the Holy Ghost plus consider that we must be obedient to all of what the scripture has to say about him and submitting ourselves to the same. When the Lord comes back to rapture the saints of God it is not the flesh (corruptible) that will be raptured but those with the spirit (incorruptible) of God of which he will recognize. Does the spirit of God communicate with the flesh or the spirit within the man that has the Holy Ghost? 2 Corinthians 13:14 the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man (not filled with God’s spirit) receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. The second epistle to the Corinthians was written from Philippi, a city of Macedonia, by Titus and Lucas. One could say he knows everything and especially those that have lived their life in obedience to his word. Regrettably, I would have to speak what the word says about this not me mind you but the word. When God spared the first born of Israel in Egypt he made them swab lamb’s blood on the door posts signifying the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ to escape the judgment of God upon Egypt but surely knew who the Jews were without having to do that don’t you think? He made Lot and his family leave Sodom and Gomorrah before he could destroy those cities and made Noah build an ark to escape his judgment so what I am saying is God has a plan that must be obeyed and we don’t have to understand why it is thus and thus but that is what is expected of all of us. “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body” (I Corinthians 12:13). Ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession (Ephesians 1:13-14). According to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5). Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us” (I John 3:24). A person can believe on him, about him but the only to get into him is through the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Romans 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. This includes both spiritual and water baptism because as Paul explained; Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism. In other words it takes both baptisms to constitute the one baptism. One without the other is incomplete! So now we know what Jesus meant when he said, John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
To escape the judgment I believe will be very soon it would be wise to seek God for this truth.
I have included in this article for your convenience a study I did on the indwelling of the spirit of God further your knowledge of the subject but I encourage you to study for yourself because there is much more material than this in the bible on this subject.

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions; and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit” (Joel 2:28-29).
