Are Sea Levels Really Rising?

I am having so much fun poking the Warmongers with my big stick as of late, and generating a ton of hate mail from them too for daring to speak the truth, that I thought it was time to tackle another one of their claims. That claim is that global sea levels are rising so fast that coastal regions will soon be under water and islands will soon begin disappearing.
I got this email from a fellow man made Global Warming skeptic about a month ago and I wanted to print my response to him today to further tweak the non-intellectuals who think they are smart.
J.J.,
I have been reading your articles on the global warming data scandal. Great stuff.
Just wanted to let you know that 15 years ago my dad built a new dock at our house on the North Carolina coast. We marked the high tide water level on the piers in 1995. Well, I just checked the level today and I can proudly tell you that at high tide the level is actually lower than 15 years ago. Not by much but noticeably lower. I have been hearing for years about how sea levels are rising faster than ever and it seems that this just is not happening based on this. Do you know anywhere where I can get actual data to verify this and stick it in the face of my liberal friends?
Thanks! Doug
Well, first of all Doug, the fact that you have liberal friends is a major problem I think needs to be resolved. Subjecting yourself to the presence of persons that think you are too dumb to lead your own life without their hands to guide you is not healthy for anyone’s mental state.
Second of all, yes, I do know of where you can get some data. The University of Colorado at Boulder maintains sea level data.
As you can see from the map they maintain, global sea level rise is overblown. In fact in many places around the world sea levels are actually decreasing based on the data and there is no consistent global rise.
The map is a little hard to use but I took data for a point that is just off the NC coast. Here is the sea level chart based on that data with a straight line through the data from the initial point back before 1994.
I have heard a lot about global sea level rising between 3 and 5 mm per year. Since 1995 (when you say you marked the level) that would be a rise of about 45 to 75 mm (over 15 years) or 1.77 to 2.95 inches which should be pretty noticeable IF true.
Based on the above chart AND your own observations I think we can see that the sea level is indeed pretty flat where you are. My suspicion is that this trend holds true in most places as you can see from the chart showing the rates of “rise.” The massive sea level rise appears to be isolated to the southern pacific around Australia. Which if you ask me indicates something else going on other than sea levels simply rising. Liquid water tends to flow pretty easily and doesn’t like to mound up like a pile of snow will. So that means the water that is “rising” in this area should flow out to the surrounding areas and even out. It is not doing that however so there must be another explanation as to why the water is rising here and not in other places.
Have at your liberal “friends!” And give them a good whack in the nuts from me. But do not expect them to give in. Liberals tend to have a problem with the facts.
