Yep, We’re Screwed

Every time I talk about schizophrenic Americans who in one breath say, “We want smaller government and less government services!” and then turn around and say they support big, unconstitutional government spending I get a lot of email from people asking me why this is. I think the answer to that is simple and I have stated it many times before. Most people who say that they want smaller government which provides less services really mean that they want smaller government that provides less “services” to others but not themselves.
My best example of this are many of the senior citizens I know. They are, by a wide margin, in favor of cutting taxes and axing many of the government welfare programs on the books. A good portion of them also use the word, “unconstitutional,” to describe why they think these programs should be ended. Oh, but as soon as I say that I agree and that even Medicaid and Social Security should be whacked they start throwing walkers and dentures at me. See, because these are THEIR programs. Don’t you dare talk about cutting those! But Welfare, Food Stamps, Medicaid, School Lunches, etc. can all be talked about being gotten rid of without any such anger.
In May of 2008 a Rasmussen poll showed that 62% of Americans, “would prefer fewer government services with lower taxes.” More recent incarnations of this poll have shown similar results. So when I get upset at the schizophrenic Americans in this latest Rasmussen poll you can forgive me and I hope understand why I say we are screwed.
See, despite large majorities of Americans saying that they want smaller government, when you drill down to the nuts and bolts of it all, do they really?
Here are things that Americans, “like” about the current health care proposals sitting in Congress, unconstitutional as they may be:
“Seventy-eight percent (78%) favor the creation of an insurance exchange where people can shop for competing insurance plans.”
- Hey great, competition is good! But the federal government creating such as thing and even administering it? That’s bigger government all you folks that claim to want smaller government. Might want to put your brains in gear first before responding to these polls and suggestions that run counter to other things you have said you believe in!
“Seventy-four percent (74%) favor imposing new rules on insurance companies and forcing them to accept all applicants without regard to pre-existing conditions.”
-Ok, we’ve been through the idiocy of mandates to cover pre-existing conditions. In summary, no reason to get insurance BEFORE you get sick if this is the case and then it really isn’t “insurance” any more now is it? Again, bigger government and more federal control supported by Americans that claim they want less government? Hey, I don’t want to beat the whole you people aren’t thinking too hard out there horse to death but I will if you force me to.
“Fifty-seven percent (57%) favor providing subsidies to help low-income people buy health insurance and expanding Medicaid to help the poorest get insurance.”
-So do you really believe in smaller government with less services? Hmmm? If you are one of the over 60% of Americans that claim that you do yet support this then you really don’t. Stop lying to yourself or, like I have said previously, think before responding.
“Finally, 51% are in favor of requiring nearly all employers to provide health insurance for their employees or pay a penalty.”
- Again, a majority of Americans claiming they support more government providing more services, i.e. forcing employers to give them health insurance, when a majority claim that they are against such things?
Yep-o, we are screwed unless Americans starting to THINK!

The only problem I have with cutting Social Security is that the government took the money from hard earned paychecks, gave it to prisoners, children who have disabilities (parents don’t have to care for these children) and illegals who have never worked in this country in their lives.
But, what about the person who worked for 50 years, contributed to the system because he had no choice because the ‘government’ took the money from him and when he retires is promised a penny on a dollar of what he contributed?
The whole system is totally upside-down!
See, as long as there are people like Judy who have a “problem” with ending unconstitutional acts by government because they concoct a reason in their head not to end them we really are screwed!
Proved the point perfectly!
