On Obama’s Back Burners
Gene Lalor | January 5, 2010
I bet that when Barack Obama won his current job as president that he didn’t expect he would have to cut short a Hawaiian vacation by one whole day–and a full 9 days after the attempted Islamic terrorist attack on Christmas Day!
C’mon now, a prez and his family deserve a lil’ r&r too, right?
So what if Bush was raked over the media coals when he dillydallied in Crawford while Americans in the 9th Ward were doing the backstroke in the wake of Katrina because they refused to evacuate and because New Orleans Mayor Nagin insisted on Greyhounds rather than use school buses to save his people?
Obama knows he’s immune from media criticism, because he’s the Anointed One, the Obamassiah, and he did reduce Hawaiian sun-basking time by 24 hours.
Now he has to get back to work with both front and back burner pressing issues.
Front Burner Issues:
. Obamacare still has to wend its way through Congress but it looks like a shoo-in now. The Democrat Senate and the Democrat House will surely work out their differences for their Democrat president, and they’ll do it in secret, thank you very much: http://bit.ly/7v8CAt
. Prospects for climate change legislation took a hit in Copenhagen but something is still do-able during this session. All the Dems need is this damnable winter to be over and some nice spring flooding they can blame on Bush and use as more proof of global warming.
. The related Cap and Tax and Trade legislation passed the House last June but is still cooking in the Senate and moderate Dems there, like Mary Landrieu, have advised the president to take it off the table, or stove, to continue the metaphor.
That multi-billion dollar, job-killing stealth tax will hit everyone across the board, everyone who leaves a carbon footprint, everyone who breathes. That would include the middle class to whom Obama repeatedly pledged, “No new taxes for you,” although he didn’t say, “Read my lips.”
So, what’s on the Obamian back burners after they dispose of such trifles which would change the face, the hopes, and the nature of America?
Back Burner Issues:
. Let’s see now. They did promise to ditch Bill Clinton’s 1993 DADT, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” policy for the military to which the Gay Lobby objected from its inception and which turned out to be no big favor to homosexuals.
The gay Dem constituency has been unusually quiet and patient on DADT and on Obama’s pledge to repeal DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act. They’re busy campaigning with mixed results for legalizing gay marriage in all of Obama’s 57 states.
Action on DADT and DOMA will just have to be moved to a front burner before Obama’s Democrat congress goes down in flames in 2010. The gay vote is in Obama’s pocket but not necessarily in all Dem pockets so some sops should be thrown their way soon.
. Then there’s that pesky abortion thing.
God and Allah only know how hard the most pro-abortion senator and now the most committed pro-abortion president in our history has striven to ensure the inalienable right of every American woman, and teenager, to terminate the existences of their pre-born babies and Obama isn’t about to let them down.
Roe v. Wade may have given them the constitutional right to kill their babies and, gosh darn it, Obama won’t let money stand in their way. After Obamacare is passed, or before, it’s a given that taxpayer monies will be incorporated for free abortions so that the poor as well as the rich can abort at will.
. And let’s not forget Rep. John Conyers’ pet peeve and project, that Blacks in America have been screwed in every way for hundreds of years and that reparations from evil White devils is long overdue.
Nevermind that there are few African-Americans who were former slaves and who have reached the ripe old age of 147 years, (1863: Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation), which would entitle them to monetary compensation from 147 year old Whites.
It’s the principle, dammit! And don’t muddy up the issue with facts about African chieftains who sold their subjects into slavery.
Aside from the immorality of slavery, for which in 2010 every American White is responsible and every American Black, even if he or she were born in Nigeria or Tanzania, deserves reparations, there is the ongoing issue of racist discrimination.
LBJ’s Great Society’s generosity and the bread and circuses provided by subsequent Democrats resulted in Black families in America disintegrating.
Even Obama has criticized Black fathers for abandoning their kids; 70% of Black babies are born out of wedlock; the Black teen pregnancy rate is 13.4% of which a third have abortions; the high school dropout rate is 40%; Black unemployment rate stands at 16%.
White America owes them!
Conyers has been very forbearing on reparations but he will have to be placated before November while he has his best shot at passage.
President Obama will have to move gay concerns, abortionists’ demands, and Black reparations to the front burners pretty soon and before 2012 or he may find himself a one-term president in 2013.
That’s an outcome devoutly to be wished.
