Mayo Clinic To Stop Accepting Medicare

ROFL! Hold on a second … ROFLMAO!

Ok, I am done now. Forgive my laughter but this is just too funny. See according to the liberals, who have never seen a government program that they didn’t like, Medicare is a great program. So too is Social Security, Welfare, Medicaid, Food Stamps and on down the line. For years they have been taxing Americans to pay for these programs and have convinced so many, particularly seniors and the poor, that without government they would wither away and die. Particularly they keep trying to convince Americans that programs like Medicare are solvent at the rate they are currently taxing American workers to fund them. And they have used this justification to promote more and more similar programs. Most recently it has been government run socialized medicine.

Well, I have been telling you for a while about how programs like Medicare are actually failing and they are failing because doctors left and right are fleeing from the government dollars provided by the plan because reimbursement rates are so low. If you have private insurance and wonder why your premiums are so high, consider that when 40-50% of the health care delivered in the United States is funded by the federal government AND funded at below market costs the money has to be made up somewhere else. Uh – yep … that means you Mr. middle class worker.

How’s that whole government nanny state thing working out for you?

Any way, it is happening again; another case of medical professionals turning down government Medicare dollars and telling Washington DC to go poud salt. This time it is the Mayo Clinic! Yes, the same Mayo Clinic that President Obama has praised as a model for how health care should be delivered. I guess he will have to pull that endorsement now other wise he would be, by default, endorsing doctors and organizations not accepting patients with government insurance.

Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) — The Mayo Clinic, praised by President Barack Obama as a national model for efficient health care, will stop accepting Medicare patients as of tomorrow at one of its primary-care clinics in Arizona, saying the U.S. government pays too little.

More than 3,000 patients eligible for Medicare, the government’s largest health-insurance program, will be forced to pay cash if they want to continue seeing their doctors at a Mayo family clinic in Glendale, northwest of Phoenix, said Michael Yardley, a Mayo spokesman. The decision, which Yardley called a two-year pilot project, won’t affect other Mayo facilities in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota.

The Mayo organization had 3,700 staff physicians and scientists and treated 526,000 patients in 2008. It lost $840 million last year on Medicare, the government’s health program for the disabled and those 65 and older, Mayo spokeswoman Lynn Closway said.

Looks like someone can expect an audit notice and a visit from some Friends of Obama sometime soon. Hey, its the Chicago Way! And President Obama cannot have people making the socialist government he wants to expand look bad and proving the point of those that have been warning for years that government run health care is flawed to the point where it cannot sustain itself.

For Medicare to continue it will either have to get more money through more taxes on the working class or simply ration care to be able to pay higher and rates in line with the actual costs of procedures.  Hey, look!  A glimpse into the future of Obamacare!

Maybe it is time to try something different?  Oh no, that would upset those Americans that bought into the lie that government would take care of them in their old age.  Not to mention the bureaucrats and politicians that have made their fortunes off perpetuating that lie!

I think your comments are dead-on, and dead is what will be the preferred option of most people after a year or 2 of obamacare. I do family practice and 1 week after calling my states democratic senators office to voice my opinion, the IRS showed up on the 30th of dec. to tell me they had lost all my quarterly returns from 2005 on, and it would cost me over $1000. My accountant said they have added 16 new field agents to my area and are auditing small businesses and anti-obamites(my label) like crazy to pay for his health-care plan. They got my payments but lost the reports and they want me to send in new ones and pay a fine. This is communism at its prime. This email will possibly cost me my license, but I refuse to go down without a fight. I hope more hospitals turn down mediscare, and I hope people realize that it’s projected that unless something changes, there will be NO MORE FP’S, INTERNISTS, AND PEDITRICIANS by 2020 based on the latest figures. It will be NP’S and specialists only. I ask my fellow Americans, is that what you want? A nurse practicioner taking care of you? If the answer is no, then call D.C and tell them to keep their hands off the practice of medicine. It’s the insurance industry that needs reform, not doctors. Common sense tells you when primary care docs are not being trained there is something wrong.I have tried to contact every elected official I know and all I got was a visit from the IRS. I AM MAD AND SO SHOULD YOU BE. YOUR RIGHTS ARE BEING TRAMPLED ON AND ABUSED. 57% of us don’t want any changes to healthcare but the power mad democrats don’t care. WE, THE GREAT UNWASHED, NO LONGER HAVE A SAY. Wake up America, and RISE UP and make your voice heard.Sometimes you have to work extra hard to keep your freedoms and this one of those times. Just remember, Thomas Jefferson and his colleagues wouldn’t tolerate tryanny so they would be proud of us, and more importantly they would expect the ordinary American to fight like hell over this healthcare plan, because they believed the avg. American loved his freedoms so much he wouldn’t hesitate to do it.You can do it. I believe in you. Call your senators and say “Enough is Enough”. Thank you, for listening to a doctor too proud of his heritage to stop fighting for what he knows is right. Dale Stegeman, M.D. dstegeman@charter.net
