Hawaii Libs Have No Money For Election

J.J. Jackson | January 10, 2010

U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, a Democrat from Hawaii, is retiring and not waiting until the end of his term to do so. While Americans are celebrating one of the most liberal member of Congress, and by correlation also one of the most often violators of our federal Constitution, leaving office the people of Hawaii are left in a bit of a bind by the move. See, with Mr. Abercrombie leaving office that leaves one of their two House seats open and Hawaiians without proper representation in Congress.

Now I would argue that an open seat is better representation than having someone of Abercrombie’s political tilt and minor brain power actually in Congress. But it is the right of the people of the State to have someone, no matter how dim, there for them.

Now, thankfully for Hawaiians there is a Congressional election this fall. But that would still mean months of no representation without a special election. The problem with that option is that the State of Hawaii has squandered so many tax payer dollars that it doesn’t have enough cash in the coffers to do a simple and basic function of good government.

What they have is just $5,000 for an election that would cost $1 million. The blame is being placed on budget cuts. The real culprit however are the officials of the State who have spent money hand over fist on all sorts of things that were not essential functions of government. These officials, these liberals, are more concerned with giving handouts and doing the nonessential things governments do in order to buy votes and loyalty that they are leaving the people of Hawaii high and dry. Ok, once again I do admit that Mr. Abercrombie’s representation in Congress was probably not helping this matter much either but it is still the right of the people of Hawaii to have that representation. So now the Hawaiian government is scrambling, looking for a million dollars to fulfill its obligation to its citizens. It is a million dollars that should have been there for an emergency already. But that would require fiscal responsibility from yet another state that has proven to not be all that concerned with such.
