RHODE ISLAND Chafee to enter race for governor WARWICK, R.I. | Lincoln Chafee is officially entering the Rhode Island governor's race. Mr. Chafee, a former Republican senator who had earlier formed an exploratory campaign to start fundraising for the race, is running as an independent to succeed Gov. Donald L. Carcieri in the 2010 election. Mr. Chafee said he would formally announce his candidacy on Monday in Warwick - the city where he once served as mayor.
