If your mother had decided to abort you.

If your mother had decided to abort you.
Carolyn Hileman
What if Martin Luther King never had his dream, what if there were no General Washington to lead the charge for freedom? What if there were no great inventors, no great scientists, no one to cure the sick and mend the wounded? What would have happened had abortion been thought of all those years ago, surely if anyone deserved the right to abortion it would have been these mothers since back then medical care was scarce, food and money scarcer, it as alternately extreme cold or hot, they did not have adequate housing, there was usually just enough food to go around and adding another mouth meant someone had to give up some food.
Most of the time young women married young were in no way prepared to give birth much less take care of a baby. They lived a simple life; they fought off snakes, bears, cougars and bandits all the while raising the little ones. Would the world have been a better place if John Wayne never existed, if JFK were not a memory because he was never born? What about John Langdon, Nicholas Gilman, Nathaniel Gorham, Rufus King, Wm: Saml. Johnson, Roger Sherman, Alexander Hamilton, Wil: Livingston, David Brearly, Wm. Paterson, Jona: Dayton, B. Franklin, Thomas Mifflin, Robt. Morris, Geo. Clymer, Thos. FitzSimons, Jared Ingersoll, James Wilson, Gouv Morris, Geo: Read, Gunning Bedford jun, John Dickinson, Richard Bassett, Jaco: Broom, James McHenry, Dan of St Thos. Jenifer, Danl Carroll, John Blair–, James Madison Jr., Wm. Blount, Richd. Dobbs Spaight, Hu Williamson, J. Rutledge, Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Charles Pinckney, Pierce Butler or, William Few, Abr Baldwin? If there mother had been given the right to choose there might not have been the signers of the Constitution.
We might not have ever heard four score and seven years ago had Abraham Lincoln’s mother been given a right not written in the bill of rights, never amended to add but still hailed as the most progressive right for women. You see abortion erases; it denies the world of what could be, it denies us future great writers, leaders and doctors. Abortion takes away and never gives, it might give a woman a split second of relief that they do not have to deal with pregnancy, but it also has them wondering for years after about what could have been. It is easy to put abortion out of your mind by just saying I would never have one or it is the law so what can we do. But the simple fact of the matter is someone loved you enough to assure that you would be here reading this, just imagine what it would be like today if your mother had decided to abort you.
