Homophobia Update: A Review of “Falsettos”

Gene Lalor | December 8, 2009

One of two stories featured in “Homophobia,” http://bit.ly/7AilFF, dealt with a play, “Falsettos,” currently in production at Massachusetts’ Concord-Carlisle Regional High School.

I’m afraid I gave it too short a shrift in that article since “Falsettos” is being “acclaimed,” a popular word in the gay community, as the greatest thing to be staged in the annals of education since Kevin Jennings was installed as Obama’s “Safe [Gay] Schools Czar.”

The plaudits were compliments of the Boston Globe.

The Globe also cited MassResistance.com which headlined “Concord-Carlisle High School presenting depraved homosexual musical’’ in its newsletter: http://massresistance.com/.

It was interesting and apropos that a sophomore girl was picked to portray a boy in this GLBTQ farce after “a small number of boys withdrew their interest after the first round of auditions,” according to the Globe.

One has to wonder how small or large that number was and why they withdrew.

Was it because Ms. Hannah Kilcoyne was a better actresss, because her mom had dumped her dad for a lesbian lover, or because no boys were naive enough to audition for the part?

Directed by homosexual activist/math teacher, good Jennings’ buddy, Peter Atlas, ”Falsettos” isn’t the first Bay Gay State high school play to draw attention from concerned, normal people.

In 2007, “Acton-Boxborough Regional High School staged ‘The Laramie Project,’ an acclaimed drama documenting the aftermath of the murder of a gay college student in Laramie, Wyo.”

Who acclaimed that play which was adapted into a dud 2002 movie of the same title is unspecified.  The subject was the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepherd near Laramie.

Shepherd, a homosexual, was viciously murdered by two drunken reprobates and became the poster boy for gay hate crime legislation even though the facts in the case are very disputable: http://bit.ly/4yATDr

Nevertheless, Acton-Boxborough drama teacher, Linda Potter, for some reason presented the play in a public high school as a factual drama and was appreciative of all the negative attention it drew because, “All they did was bring us more attention and a larger audience.’’

It seems the bottom line for homosexual activists is attention, better to attract gays to high school auditoria and better to suck in gullible kids who have been taught diversity of all kinds is the be-all-and-end-all of their education.

As with sport teams, theatrical productions on the high school level used to be intended to attract as many students as possible to try out and perform.

Like too many high school sports which are now designed as much for the aggrandizement of the team and school and to groom a very limited number of athletes for scholarships, too many theater programs are being presented to capture an ideological niche.

Rather than draw hundreds of kids to audition for productions of “Grease” or “High School Musical,” people like Concord-Carlisle teacher/director/gay activist Peter Atlas are more than content with such indoctrination productions as “The Laramie Project” and “Falsettos.”

Anyone with the most-limited contact with adolescents knows very well that they are easily the most susceptible people on the planet, susceptible to innuendo, to suggestions of unfair repression, and lately to the multi-eged sword of so-called “diversity.”

Gays have been capitalizing on those susceptibilities.

After all, who needs massive student participation when one can make a point?

Atlas was absolutely beside himself with the turnout for “Falsettos.”  With a total of 1268 district-wide students, some 50 turned out for his exclusive ensemble production, which wasn’t a bad number.

However, with just 7 acting slots to fill, it was obvious that Mr. Atlas had very specific requisites for the roles.  He was “delighted” with both the audtion turnout and the administrative support from Principal Badalament for the first in the nation high school presentation of “Falsettos” http://bit.ly/815pNd

Mr. Atlas should be applauded for his success–success in convincing an American high school to permit him to stage the divisive, licentious “Falsettos.”

(It should be noted that the school on its website prides itself on “fostering . . . a social consciousness” in its students even before mentioning educational scholarship.)

Immediately after that applause his tenure should be revoked and he should be arrested for child endangerment and for corrupting the morals of children.

I’d suspend that judgement if Atlas’ next production is a recreation of The Passion of the Christ or even if he endorses the Boy Scouts despite their rejection of homosexual scout leaders.

Fat chance for his arrest or for a performance of The Passion.

As for a Boy Scout endorsement, that’s still a possibility if he manages to combine his personal passion with chosen Boy Scouts.

It’s not coincidental that the word “falsetto” is the Italian dimunutive for “falso,” false or phony, a word which says it all about Peter Atlas and “Falsettos.”
