Bet You Will Not Hear Much About Rep Griffith
J.J. Jackson | December 23, 2009
Rep. Parker Griffith (D) is not going to get much media play for his actions. So I think. Why? Because he is switching parties and unlike when Senator Snarlin’ Benedict Arlen Specter (who had always been a liberal wacko and Democrat masquerading as a Republican) his switch does not help with the standard liberal media line. See when a liberal RINO like Specter switches parties, after realizing Republicans in Pennsylvania were not going to elect him in another primary, it is front page news because the story is about the Democrats gaining more power. With Griffith switching and giving Speakerette Pelosi a tongue lashing well, that’s not that important no matter how true his statements are.
Specter was hailed by many numb-minded individuals as having such great courage. But all he did was jump on a bandwagon. He left a minority party for a majority one. Griffith on the other hand will probably not be protrayed as such even though he is going from a majority possition to a minority one. Now that takes courage whether you care to admit it or not.
“Unfortunately there are those in the Democratic Leadership that continue to push an agenda focused on massive new spending, tax increases, bailouts and a health care bill that is bad for our healthcare system,” Griffith said in a statement. “I have always considered myself to be an independent voice and I have tried to be that voice in Congress – but after watching this agenda firsthand I now believe that the differences in the two parties could not be more clear and that for me to be true to my core beliefs and values I must align myself with the Republican party and speak out clearly on these issues.
Griffith’s party switch comes on the eve of a pivotal congressional health care vote and will send a jolt through a Democratic House Caucus that has already been unnerved by the recent retirements of a handful of members who, like Griffith, hail from districts that offer prime pickup opportunities for the GOP in 2010.
Some will say what is one Representative in the larger of the two Houses of Congress. They will try to downplay this action. But the numbers do need to be looked at. With 435 members divided as such: 257 Democrats and 178 Republicans. Only 40 seats need to switch hands in the 2010 midterm elections for the Democrats to loose control of the House. Now that number is 39 assuming that Griffith retains his seat. When you count the number of districts that have Democrats representing them and that either voted for McCain in 2008 or Bush in 2004 there are 60-70 seats in play easily. In fact, just three years ago there were 232 Republicans in Congress letting you know that there is somewhere around 54 seats that sit on the fence currently.
DISCLAIMER!: I am NOT endorsing Rep. Griffith nor I am endorsing the Republican Party either with this post. The mere fact that Mr. Griffith ran as a Democrat tells me that he has liberal tendencies which are bad for this county and liberty. So too the Republican Party has proven far to liberal in recent decades as well. This post is just about numbers and how Mr. Griffith will be reacted to differently because he dares to defy the Democratic Party Overlords.
