What Constitutes “Acceptable Health Insurance Coverage.”

And Just What Constitutes “Acceptable Health Insurance Coverage.”
Nancy Pelosi and 219 of her colleagues just voted to force you to buy government-mandated health insurance or go to jail .
You read that right. According to a chilling analysis by the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) , the health care “reform” bill that Speaker Pelosi rammed through the House of Representatives requires you to purchase a government-approved plan or :
Face a penalty of up to 2.5 percent of your income (collected by the IRS, of course) if you fail to maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage.”
And refusal to pay the penalty “is punishable by a fine of up to 250,000 dollars and/or imprisonment for up to five years.”
Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI) , Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail.”
That’s in addition to the other Pelosi-Care mandates that will lead to rationed care for our nation’s seniors… limit your health care choices… put government bureaucrats between you and your doctor… and ultimately reduce the quality of care you and your family receive.
The next step in this fight is for similar legislation to be considered by the Senate, and reports from a few days ago… claiming that government-run health care wouldn’t be voted on until next year… were premature and erroneous .
According to the New York Times , Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid moved to put Pelosi-Care on the Senate floor next week . In fact, Reid filed a motion to introduce his version of government-run health care on Monday, November 16, which means the Senate debate will begin on Tuesday.
The will of the American people be damned… President Obama and the extreme liberals in Congress plan to ram their so-called health care “reform” down our throats with all deliberate speed… They think the American people are tired, that the vote in the House took the wind out of our sails.
They’re scheming behind closed doors… making deals… twisting arms… thinking they can do the same thing in the Senate that they did in the House. They think that if they move quickly, they can get away with it.
But that’s not going to happen. They are seriously underestimating your resolve against government-run health care. Let’s defeat their dubious scheme right here and right now.
Well… we don’t really know that yet. Pelosi’s 1,990 page monstrosity doesn’t adequately specify exactly what constitutes “acceptable health insurance coverage.”
Instead, Section 224 of Pelosi-Care puts Barack Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services in charge of figuring that out within 18 months of government-run health care becoming the law of the land.
Betsy McCaughey in the Wall Street Journal put it this way: “That’s like a banker telling you to sign the loan agreement now, then filling in the interest rate and repayment terms 18 months later.”
But, even though we don’t yet know precisely how “acceptable health insurance coverage” will be defined, there are two things we do know.
First : Remember when Barack Obama said, “First of all, if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctors, you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. Nobody is talking about taking that away from you.”
Well (shocker) , it appears the President wasn’t being totally candid with the American people.
Under Pelosi-Care , it may be technically possible for you to keep your doctor and keep your plan… but the government will call the shots .
McCaughey again:
“Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a ‘qualified plan.’ If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a ‘grace period’ to switch you to a ‘qualified plan,’ meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there’s no grace period. You’ll have to enroll in a qualified plan as soon as any term in your contract changes, such as the co-pay, deductible or benefit.”
In plain English that means, if you like the coverage you have now (and according to the most recent survey data, the vast majority of Americans do) , you better hope and pray the plan you have now is deemed by Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services to be a “qualified plan” and you better hope that it never changes.
Indeed, some experts predict that between 90 million to 114 million people will be forced off of their current health insurance and on to a “qualified plan,” approved by the federal government.
Second : We know approximately how much “acceptable health insurance coverage” will cost.
According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest (again, that’s the lowest) family non-group plan under Pelosi-Care will cost approximately 15,000 dollars in 2016.
What’s that you say?
You don’t want to be forced to buy a bare-bones health care plan for 15,000 dollars or more… a plan that must conform to standards that Barack Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services will set at some point in the future… a plan that will ration your health care… a plan that will give you fewer choices… a plan that will lower the quality of care you receive?
Well… you still have a choice. You can pay a tax penalty to the IRS of up to 2.5 percent of your income… or you can go to jail .
Or you can continue to fight… you can look Obama and Congress straight in the eye and say no ObamaCare … no Pelosi-Care … no way… no how.
