13 people murdered in cold blood, 29 others wounded by a man who was a licensed physiologist who knew that if he just told his commanding officers that he even thought of doing such a thing he would have been given a section 8 and sent home. Much has been said about this man, his beliefs, his past, his reasons, was it terrorism, was it that he just suddenly snapped, when it all comes down to it he is a murderer plain and simple. While watching news coverage in the aftermath I was appalled to hear that there were people at his old base who knew he was a radical, but rather than stop him they sent him to Texas.

I listened to a man on Fox news tell them of all the things he said and did, that never raised any red flags, with him or the Army, now after it is all over this man wants to come forward and tell us what a bad seed he was, where was this man when he could have stopped him. Then of course we had Texas senators feeding information to the news on a constant basis Hutchinson and Carter to name two. Both of these people behaved inappropriately, this information was not theirs to give, they were not on the scene, we had a General who was giving out the information he wanted out at that time, those Army personnel who were briefing them should have been doing their jobs taking care of the wounded and those people on base who needed them.

I was proud of Governor Perry who could have used this tragedy to get in the limelight like some other officials from Texas did. He said the right people were there, that the General would be giving updates and that he would go there when he was not a distraction. Unlike several Texas politicians who made it about them and how much information they could give out from Washington, our Governor allowed the Army to access and command the situation without interference. While we ponder what made this man and I use that term very loosely decide to wage so-called Jihad in an area he knew that there would be very little resistance, we must also ponder how this man came to be in that position to begin with.

Those people who knew he was trouble and never reported it, was it because they thought it was all talk, or was it because after 9/11 to speak ill of any Muslim is considered racism whether they are a radical or not. Is it because in the aftermath of 9/11, Muslims were suddenly a favored group, not because of the outcry from their members at the cowardly acts that members of their religion unfolded on America, but because we were afraid to take them on, this was murder, there can be no doubt about that fact, was only one man responsible, that remains to be seen. Those who knew and said nothing, those who knew and did nothing, those who made this tragedy about themselves, owe a great apology to the families of those brave men and women who were killed or wounded on November 5, 2009.
