Fort Hood Gunman Identified as Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan
J.J. Jackson | November 5, 2009
We are still waiting to hear more about the shooter at Fort Hood who recently expressed his unhappiness with being deployed to the Middle East and today opened fire, killing tens of people on the military base. One thing we have learned is that this deliberate act was perpetrated by a soldier named … wait for it … Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. Uh, guess I am not surprised to hear that.
His religion is unknown as of me writing this but with a name like Malik Nadal Hasan it certainly points towards a high probability of a man who practices a radical Islamic faith. At least one source claims that Hasan is indeed a convert to Islam.
UPDATE at 4:53 p.m.: The Associated Press has confirmed what ABC first reported: the suspected shooter who has been killed is U.S. Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. He is said to be a convert to Islam.
Even so the FBI has declared, rather quickly and surprising, that this was not an act of terrorism. Although we know that there were two others involved, Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan was killed, officials are hesitant to call this a conspiracy.
It is all very bizare on all fronts and the speed with which the authorities reacted to denounce obvious questions and without any obvious investigation raises even more questions than answers. I certainly will not be stunned to learn that Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan was a member of a radical Islamic faith if it turns out to be true.
