This recession is only as bad as we allow it to be.

As with most problems this economy is only as bad as we allow it to be, this is not the first time we have seen banks being closed I am sure some of you remember the big Savings and loans bailouts and bank closings we did not fail then, we will not fail now. How many of you remember right after 9/11 when no one wanted to spend money for fear we might be attacked again and need it, we didn’t fail then and we will not fail now. I am fully aware that people are hurting and believe me I am not immune to it either but the fact is we can get through this if we the people work together.
If we start looking around instead of down we might just see that there are ways we can help each other and our selves. There is a system called bartering a lot of people use it but what we need to do is use it to help each other. There are things I am good at and then there are things well lets just say I would look pretty silly if I tried. But my neighbor might be good at that and I might be good at something they need. Instead of watching your neighborhood go to hell, get out there and meet your neighbors and work together to keep it alive. If your neighbor is going through a tough financial crisis you may not be able to give them money but you might be able to help them save enough to get them through it. Baby sitting, meal sharing, car pooling, handy man work, there is always something you can do.
If each of us commit to helping each other and really do it by the time this crisis is over you might just find that it really did not hurt as bad as you thought and you might just have a closer neighborhood and some really good friends to boot. I myself am good at baking, I also carry about four extra kids to youth group, and I am not saying that to brag on myself since to be honest I get more out of driving those kids to youth group than I give. They are some of the nicest kids you could ever want to meet and I just love to listen to their conversations as we go back and fourth. There are two who would have never gotten to go as their Mom works and their Dad is out of the country, but they have been going now at least six years and it is still as fun as the day we started.
There was a time in this country where neighbors helped neighbors, they had barn building parties where people would show up to help build and the owners would feed them, people knew each other, and people looked out for one another. Then progress moved in and people now have no idea who lives next to them, it is time for a new progress, a progression towards knowing who your neighbors are and what each of you can do, it is time we worked together, hand in hand, because this recession is only as bad as we allow it to be.
