Stockholm syndrome a nation held hostage

A perceived threat to ones physical or mental well being, a perceived threat to ones social, economical standing, hints that the person can in fact make those threats a reality. Witnessing violence perpetrated by their captor upon others be it personally or by initiating it. In the classic cases of Stockholm syndrome, the captor initially frightens their prey, either by physically harming them or threatening to do so, these attacks will continue for days, they will tell them over and over again they are their only way out and if they do not do exactly as they say their situation will not improve and in fact will only get worse. Once they have the person sufficiently afraid they will offer some small kindness such as a drink of water or food, after a while the person abducted, comes to see the person as their only means of survival.

Our abduction started even before January 20 2009, it began when the gas prices soared to the point people were working just to pay for gas, along with that the grocery prices started to rise, people were being laid off daily and fear gripped the heart of every single American. The sudden announcement that we had to bail out companies or we would all go under sent waves of fear throughout the country, there was anger but the fear was the worst, we were seeing or thought we were seeing the end of our world as we knew it. We were then told there was only one person who could make it all better, only one. We watched in horror as bill after bill for massive amounts of money were signed into law and then we watched as very little of the money that was spent went to the people and no jobs came of it. As any hostage would do we started to make plans for our escape, we called, we emailed, and we got nowhere. Before long our captor had figured out what we were doing and set up a way that he would know who it was that was trying to escape, he would have the other hostages tip him off to those who were trying to escape.

Some hostages took it upon themselves to go to meetings to voice their plea for rescue, and watched as their captor sent people in to physically silence them, yet they kept trying to escape, so he used his people to malign them, to act as though they were the people with the problem, they were insane, could not be trusted, only he could be trusted. Any attempt to change the situation or escape would be and still is met with equal or excessive force, news media that does not print what is handed down is trashed and maligned, any hostage that dare speak against the captor is met with swift silencing measures. After a while some of the hostages will begin to identify with their captor which explains how the captor can get people to tell him what the other hostages are doing. Those that identify with the captor are identified as having Stockholm syndrome; they even though they know better will follow any order, will physically attack anyone they perceive as a threat to their captor. Often times they will even after they have been rescued attempt to help their captor, by paying legal fees and testifying for them. I submit to you that we are victims of Stockholm syndrome a nation held hostage.
