RSSIt Is Choas! Lib Versus Lib In San Francisco!

Life is rough out there on the left. And Heaven help you if you are not as far to the left as those up the food chain from you. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, a man no one would ever accuse of being reasonable on a consistent basis and about as far to the left as many people thought the city would ever see, is fighting against his fellow travelers in just such an example. The issue that has him and the even more radical Board of Supervisors in a tussle is the City’s unconstitutional Sanctuary City policy which Newsom has been a supporter of.
Mayor Newsom’s plight is one that “moderates” who are always telling us to get along with the left would do well to learn from. Moderates often claim that by succumbing to the wishes of liberals and giving them a little of what the left wants (that they claim to disagree with) they will be able to get a little of what they want (and that the left disagrees with). But when the left is willing to eat their own, what chance does someone sitting on the fence panzy trying to triangulate an allience with them stand? Answer: none … not a snow ball’s chance in Hell.
The current policy in San Francisco is that juvenile offenders found to be illegals are turned over to the Federal Government who, according to the Constitution, makes immigration law. And current immigration law is that if you are here illegal you will be deported unless you can come up with a really, really, really, really good excuse not to be. However it also allows so-called “law abiding” illegal aliens to remain. Of course the term “law abiding” and illegal alien are not able to be used in conjunction since by definition an illegal alien is a law breaker. But these are liberals we are dealing with here! They could piss in the snow and an called it lemon flavored ice. Just remember that.
Now there is a new policy according to the Board of Supervisors:
Overturning the city’s current policy, San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors voted last week to stop handing illegal minors over to the feds unless they’ve been convicted of a serious crime. Their vote upends a year-old policy that sent more than 100 suspects into federal custody for deportation.
The measure’s sponsor, once an illegal immigrant himself, says innocent youths were being deported and their families were being torn apart by the city’s law.
Aw … isn’t that sweet. A former illegal immigrant (who should have been sent home to wherever it is he came from and never allowed to return) is fighting for his fellow illegals. Gee, big surprise there!
Much like a city cannot deny it’s residents trial by jury (thus overriding the federal Constitution) they cannot overwrite federal immigration law either. I know liberals FEEL that they can do whatever they want. But the fact is they cannot. The problem is that few in the federal government are willing to stand up to the leftist in America. And with Obama in the White House and Queen Nancy and Prince Harry in Congress? Well, that isn’t going to change soon.
It is nice to see Mayor Newsom standing his ground and taking on his fellow travelers and at least he is half right on the issue here. That is better than most liberals ever get on any issue! But he is still a liberal and he is still wrong about his support for any sort of Sanctuary City policy. Even though he is “ording” law enforcement to continue turning over illegal aliens he should be doing more.
It should be an interesting fight to watch and see who gets the beat down in the end. My bet is Newsom will not be able to withstand the onslaught of his more radical brethren.
