The Spirit Of ‘76 Is NOT Dead!
Carl Andrews | July 6, 2009
On July 4th, we presented an article calling for a modern-day Declaration Of Independence.
As fate would have it, later that day something happened that made me believe it to be possible.
That night, my hope for the future of this country received a real shot in the arm.
I don’t put much faith in coincedence, but it had to be fate that drew me there, and strenghtened my conviction that we can stop Obama and his Marxist minions from taking America away from us.
My wife and I went to a fireworks display that was held at a high-school football stadium.
Seating was only available on one side of the stadium, as as we made our way to the bleachers, we saw that set up in front of them was a large stage where a band was playing.
This was our first time at this particular venue, and what happened a little later on gave me a renewed sense of hope for the future of America.
As it started to grow closer to dusk, the band stopped playing, and a man took the stage.
After thanking everyone for coming, he asked if any veterans that were in the audience would please stand up and remain standing.
After the applause died down, the announcer, who had to take a moment to compose himself, said:
“Take a good like at these men and women. You could never begin to repay the debt you owe them. The only reason that the rest of you are able to be here today is because of the sacrifices they made, and continue to make, for your freedom.”
At that point, he asked everyone else to rise for the playing of our National Anthem, and as the final notes of The Star Spangled Banner faded from the public address system, the crowd went absolutely berserk.
People were yelling at the top of their lungs “USA, USA” and stomping their feet to the point that I thought the bleachers might collapse.
When things quieted down, I turned to an older gentleman sitting next to me and asked if this was something that happened every year.
His response was:
“I’ve been coming to see the fireworks for as long as they’ve been doing it here.
And every year, they do the part about asking the vets to stand up.
And I have never, in all the years that I’ve come here, seen a reaction like this.
I think people are getting fed up, and they want their country back, the country they grew up in.”
Damn right we do.
