Stop the outrage.
Carolyn Hileman
When my kids were little and did not want to eat their supper because they were full, we would ask are you hungry enough for ice cream, when they would say yes, and they usually did, we would counter with, then you are hungry enough to eat your food. Well, it would seem that our senate has decided that since we don’t want to swallow the hate crimes bill by itself they are sticking it in the 2010 defense authorization bill. Kind of like when you don’t want to swallow a nasty tasting medicine, they are going to mix it in with something they know you want, pay for our troops. Sad and pathetic, that anytime the people say no, they use our troops against us.
Many people called, emailed and have written to their representatives to have this bill stopped because it would affectively curtail religious freedom of speech and has language that protects pedophiles, language I might add that would make you a criminal if you were to warn your neighbors of one living in your neighborhood. Senator Leahy said that since they cannot get the sixty votes needed to pass this on its own they should put it in the senate defense bill and that is exactly what they did and on 7/15/2009 they plan to pass it. Now lets think about this for a minute shall we, if they can’t get the votes they need for Cap and Trade, stick it on a defense bill, can’t get the votes for health care, stick it on the defense bill, can’t get the votes for a new stimulus, I think you see where this is heading…
Our troops, don’t ask for much, not for what they give, they hardly make enough money to be declared over the poverty level and these people want to use them as pawns to pass what ever they deem necessary for you and I. You see, they are under the mistaken impression that we don’t care, they think they can slide this in and no one will notice or even say a thing. They would be wrong, the use of our troops pay to pass unpopular bills, must and will stop. Now you really do not have to do anything, you can ignore it, go on watching the game, while a bunch of senators decide the fate of our troops based on whether they can slip in something and get away with it. It is not enough that they control the house and senate; they must use our brave men and women to pass their agenda even if the public has said no.
You and I know this is not right, you and I know that our troops deserve much better than what they are given and they darn sure don’t deserve to have their pay and armor threatened every time they turn around for the sake of a few votes. Now it is up to us, you and me to fight this battle for those who are serving us. It is time to swamp their offices with emails and faxes, shut down the phone lines, call the senate switchboard at US Capitol toll free 877-851-6437 or 866-220-0044
866-340-9281 or 800-417-7666
Tell them S.909 does not belong in the defense bill and we want it stripped immediately. Tell them to stop using our troops as pawns, tell them the pay for our troops had better not be held up for one second and to shred S.909. Remind them that they are being watched, that the American people are sick and tired of their heavy handed routine and that in 2010 they will see a cleaning so good Clorox could have done it, stop the outrage.
