Senator Boxer: Senate Turns Back Thune`s Gun Amendment
Carolyn Hileman - The Voice | July 31, 2009
Dear Friend:
I hope that you had the chance to follow the debate in the Senate on consideration of the Thune Amendment, which could have had a dangerous impact on gun laws. The amendment, offered by Senator John Thune (R-SD), would require California to honor concealed carry permits granted by other states with weaker standards than those in California. The Senate voted to reject this amendment.
I strongly opposed the Thune Amendment. California should not be forced to live with another state’s weaker laws. We need to do everything we can to protect our families, not pass a dangerous proposal that would only lead to more gun deaths and put more police officers in the line of fire.
A video of the speech, delivered on the floor of the Senate, is available on my website at http://boxer.senate.gov/senate/floor_speeches/07222009.cfm, and some of my excerpted remarks are available at http://boxer.senate.gov/news/outreach/2009/07/073009.cfm.
Sincerely,
Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
