“I don’t want to run auto companies.” – President Barack Obama, April 29, 2009

So President Obama claims although you have to read into what he said. He did not say that he “would not” run auto companies. He said that he “didn’t want” to run auto companies. Implication? He will if he must to achieve the goals he wants.

Petty squabbling over language? So liberals would claim but let us look at the facts. President Obama has already used his government to force out GM President Wagoner. So obviously he will run them when he believes he must. The precedent has been set.

And now liberals in Congress want in on the act of running automobile manufactures too reports WorldNetDaily. Seeking to once again flex their unconstitutional muscles, Sen. Tom Harkin wants to place more mandates on the automobile industry in essence forcing President Obama to “run” them.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Now that the federal government has gained control over the nation’s auto industry
, one U.S. senator contends, it’s time to make some changes in the kinds of cars Americans drive and the kinds of fuel they use.

According to a Des Moines Register report, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, wants Congress to use “climate change” legislation to mandate that auto manufacturers
fit all new cars to run on a blend of 85 percent ethanol.

“We own the automobile companies,” Harkin said earlier this week. “Why not? I think that will be an easy one.”

He comes the difference between “would not” and “don’t want.” If the automobile manufactures will not do what liberals want, they will force them to do so. Forget the fact that ethanol really sucks as an additive. Forget that ethanol gallon for gallon has fewer BTUs than gasoline and therefore requires more of it to accomplish the same ends. Forget the fact that without huge federal government subsidies the Ethanol industry would collapse because it is unprofitable. Forget the fact that without government intervention there would not even be ethanol on gasoline. Forget that nowhere in the Constitution is there the power granted to our federal government to be a shareholder in private industry much less regulate what kinds of fuels we put in our tanks.

Forget all this. That’s what liberals want you to do. Because then they can do what they claim they “don’t want” to do but really “do want” to do.
