A more likely reason in my mind is political ambitions. Colin Powell believed that Obama was a sure thing and he did not want to be left out. Consider when he gave his support. It was not in the early beginnings of the campaign. It was after Obama had been running ahead. Colin has been a politician throughout his military career. It was General Schwarzkopf who ran the first invasion of Iraq and who believed that if you go to war go all the way. Not Colin, he took the credit and went along with not finishing the job. As a politician it is not good to stand on principal when the prevailing mood is not there. Expediency will help your career more. Colin is now trying to become a voice in the party that he abandoned with the hope of being rewarded for his actions. Well Obama did not throw a crumb to Colin so now he is trying to pretend that he made an honest mistake. Mistake or deliberate move he and his judgment can not be trusted.
