Blue Dog Democrats Cave on Health Care!
Today in Washington, the so-called Blue Dog Democrats — Democrats who masquerade as fiscal conservatives even while their votes keep radicals Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in power — reportedly caved in and will allow the disastrous ObamaCare health care bill to go forward for a vote. This bill will raise taxes on businesses and families while limiting choice and rationing care. Eventually, if the bill’s language isn’t changed, it will force Americans out of the private health insurance that 85% find satisfactory and into an untried government-run system. A system that even the Congressional Budget Office says will not cut costs at all, and will probably increase costs – an increase that will either raise the deficit or force a tax hike. This government-run system will destroy private health care as we know it. This government-run system will take your own health care decisions out of your hands. It will hurt seniors and allow bureaucrats to choose who gets expensive procedures and who doesn’t, meaning they will be putting money ahead of your health and choosing who lives and who dies. Our government has no constitutional authority to be making these kinds of personal choices.
And in spite of President Obama’s promise not to raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year, this bill WILL raise taxes on the middle class. In the midst of a deep recession, and coming on the heels of the cap and trade tax increase that the radical Democrats have already passed, this double whammy will deeply hurt Texas families and businesses. Like cap and trade, this ObamaCare bill is not change that anyone with any common sense should believe in.
There is still time to act. The bill will get a vote after Congress returns from the recess in the fall, and with their heavy majorities in both houses and a president eager to put his name on radical reform, the Democrats will be able to make it the law of the land. Unless we stop them.
Texas is home to three of these so-called Blue Dog Democrats who are caving to the radical leftwing Democrats. They are Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Waco), Rep. Gene Green (D-Houston) and Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D-San Antonio). These Blue Dogs should not be Pelosi’s lap dogs. They need to hear from Texans that enough is enough, and a vote for the Democrats’ government-run health care system will be the end of their political careers.
